Some exciting second-round action on Tuesday night in the boys’ LHSAA basketball playoffs. Arcadia pulled the upset and sent home the Logansport Tigers. Homer fell in a close matchup at East Iberville. Doyline picked up their 30th win of the season and now stands at 27 straight wins. Calvary dominated every aspect of their win tonight against Vermilion Catholic. Summerfield is making at a good run to send their boys down to Lake Charles with a big win over Georgetown. Here are the results and some summaries from tonight’s matchups.

Division IV 

No. 6 Calvary Cavaliers 66, No. 11 Vermilion Catholic Eagles 44

The Calvary Cavaliers started with a bang against the Vermilion Catholic Eagles on Tuesday night and the momentum carried them through the rest of the night at Calvary. The Cavs started out off the tip with a 7-0 run sparked by D’Marcus Hall. Calvary continued on runs throughout the first quarter. The ending of the first brought a closing 6-0 run and the Cavs were up 19-6 after the first quarter. The Cavaliers continued their domination under the board outrebounding the Eagles 18-6 in the first half. Calvary’s dominating first half defense also sparked five blocks. Calvary continued their domineering play through the second half en route to the second-round victory.  

D’Marcus Hall led the Cavaliers with 22 points for the night. Labree Williams bucketed 14. Ben Ponder netted 9 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. Cliff Mosley scored 6 points and took 8 rebounds. 

Alex Broussard was the lead scorer for the Eagles with 22 points and 6 rebounds.  

“We had a size advantage,” Calvary Coach Vic Morris said, “One thing I wanted to do was for us to get inside. First-quarter, we were a little rusty because it had been on a week off. I think we settled down and started to play together. We did some good things offensively and defensively, as well which is going to be key on the run. ”  

Division V 

No. 6 New Living Word Lions 106, No. 11 St. Joseph-Plaucheville Eagles 51

The Lions came out roaring against the Eagles as they jumped out to a 57-17 halftime lead. New Living Word had two players complete double-doubles for the night. Ja’Carrion Gipson scored 33 points and grabbed 14 rebounds. Ja’Laen Bonner scored 14 points and boarded 11 rebounds. Ja’Darrius Johnson was no slouch with 20 points and 6 rebounds. Anatavion Bass netted 13 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists. Anthony Bass bucketed 11 points for the win.

Class A

No. 3 Lincoln Prep Panther 76, No. 14 Northwood-Lena Gators 42

The Panthers powered through on a strong night by freshman Fred Payne. Payne pulled the double-double with 26 points and 11 rebounds. Chanse Robinson swished 19 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists. Tristan Gatson rounded out the Panthers with 10 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists.
