District 1-A although Homer and Ringgold had to face each other in the first round, will still have five teams competing in the second round. Calvary, Plain Dealing, Homer, Arcadia, and Lincoln Prep will all get a chance to head to Lake Charles in the second round next week. All three teams in District 1-C are still alive and will be competing next Tuesday night. Gibsland-Coleman avenged the Lady Bulldogs loss to Plainview with a 70 point win tonight in Gibsland against the Hornets. Summerfield and New Living Word will see their first action last night. Doyline is the sole survivor from District 1-B as they will take on a surprising 23-15 No. 16 Mt. Hermon team next Tuesday. Good luck to all our remaining teams.

Class A

No. 16 Plain Dealing Lions 74, No. 17 Montgomery Tigers 64

The Plain Dealing Lions had to wake up late in the first quarter to catch their roar. Montgomery jumped out to an early 13-3 lead in the first quarter as they looked to be in their game and score easily on the Lions. Coach Sean Koeppen saw the early demise and called a quick timeout halfway through the first. It worked. Plain Dealing went on a 9-0 run to get within one point. Montgomery had to call a timeout with a little under two minutes to stop the bleeding. Montgomery took a 19-13 lead heading into the second quarter. Plain Dealing came out strong in the second starting another quick 7-0 run to pass up the Tigers at 20-19. Montgomery had to gain their composure once again with a timeout. Boyd sparked the scoring frenzy at the beginning with a quick 8 points. C. Johnson got hot and scored another 7 points. The Lions took control and a 33-29 lead into halftime. Plain Dealing caged the Tigers in the third with four steals and eight rebounds. The Lions 3-point brigade broke loose in the third quarter also with Johnson, O’Neal, and Boyd hit from long range. Plain Dealing took a 14 point lead into the final quarter. Montgomery got as close as six points in the final quarter as emotions got high and Plain Dealing received a technical foul. The Tigers put up an impressive 26 point in the final quarter with J. T. Turner bucketing 12 and Kyland Nash scoring 9 in the frenzy. It wasn’t enough though as Plain Dealing eliminated Montgomery in the first round. “Slow start for us and I think we took them lightly, but we woke up at halftime,” Coach Sean Koeppen said. “We’ve got to be a little smarter and try to run the clock out and not foul. We let the score with no time running off.”

The Lions were lead by Darrien Perry who scored 20 points and collected 8 rebounds. Cedarious Johnson netted 16 with 5 steals. Trevion Boyd swished 16 points with 6 rebounds. Ladarious O’Neal bucketed 11 points.

J. T. Turner led the Tigers with 22 points. Kylan Nash pulled a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Rondarious Morris scored 8 points and pulled down 6 rebounds.
