The Arcadia Tournament kicked off with a lot of defensive action on the first day of the three-day round-robin tournament at Arcadia High School.

PLAIN DEALING LIONS 64, NEW LIVING WORD LIONS 41

Plain Dealing had a massive 24 point second quarter which gave them a commanding 40-20 lead heading into halftime. The deficit was too much for New Living Word to overcomes as Plain Dealing took the first win. 

Darrien Perry nailed five 3-pointers on his way to 21 points for 

Plain Dealing. Cedarious Johnson bucketed 15. Trevion Boyd netted 13 for Plain Dealing. Carnez Hillmon rounded out Plain Dealing with 10.  

J’Carlon Gibson led the New Living Word Lions with 18 points.

LINCOLN PREP LADY PANTHERS 50, ARCADIA LADY HORNETS 26

Lincoln Prep was not nice to the host team as they stole the ball a total of 18 times in the matchup. Lincoln Prep started light but put the pressure on with the full-court press and went on an 8-0 run in the first quarter to take the early 11-4 lead. Mykell Harris broke the run with a bucket with a foul shot. Anya Rhonin got the Lady Panthers back on track with a three that triggered another run 8-2 run en route to an early 19-8 lead in the first quarter. Rhonin continued to be the catalyst in the second quarter as another three late in the middle of the second quarter fired off a 12-0 run to end the first half up 34-16. Five steals in the third quarter by the Lady Panthers maintained their lead. Lincoln Prep cruised through the fourth for the win.

Anya Rhonin and Alexis Foster finished the night with five steals and 11 points each for the Lincoln Prep Lady Panthers.  

Kayla Currie finished with 13 points for Arcadia. Mykell Harris chipped in 10.

HAYNESVILLE LADY TORNADOS 37, GIBSLAND-COLEMAN LADY BULLDOGS 30

Marissa Tell brought picked up a double-double with 10 blocks and 19 points against the Lady Bulldogs on Thursday night

Gibsland-Coleman struggled in the first quarter to find the basket as they completed a single field from their first points by Sharmaia Durham. Haynesville took an early 11-5 lead after the first quarter. Both teams struggled to score in the first three minutes of the second quarter. Tell finally broke the scoring drought for both teams. Two 3-pointers by Ke’Honesty Willams and a driving shot by Jamaya Jackson saw the Lady Bulldogs catch Haynesville at 13-13 on the 8-0 run. Tell stopped shots and stopped the drive with another shot. Lead change back and forth fo the remainder of the quarter. Haynesville headed to the locker room with a slim 18-15 lead. Jackson came back after halftime and the two teams were once again knotted at 18. Two quick turnovers had Haynesville regroup. Quick baskets by Tell and a free throw tried to go away. Jackson and William gave the Lady Bulldogs their first lead of the game. The two went to trading shots. Tell landed a shot in the final seconds to give Haynesville the one-point lead heading into the final quarter. The woes of the first quarter reappeared for the Lady Bulldogs. Williams kicked off the final frame with a three and regained the lead for Gibsland-Coleman in the opening seconds of the final quarter. This would be the last points the Lady Bulldogs would score until 12 seconds remaining. Meanwhile, Tell and Shine took advantage as they took the lead and held on for the win.

Ke’Honesty Willaims popped three from beyond the arch to score a total of 16 points. Jamaya Jackson scored 10 for the Lady Bulldogs.

ARCADIA HORNETS 63, GIBSLAND-COLEMAN BULLDOGS 34

This was a matchup that took place just five days ago in Saline in the finals of the Bienville Parish Tournament. Arcadia started fast with a 10-3 lead in the first three minutes. Gibsland Coleman made one field goal by Durham as a three-minute drought started for the Bulldogs. Arcadia put the full-court press on the Bulldogs and the defense reaped points as the Hornets went on an 11-0 run to close out with a 21-7 first-quarter lead. Gibsland-Coleman roared back early in the second quarter as they started with the hot hand and closed the gap with a 17-2 run and closed the gap to within 26-24 after a desperation timeout by the Hornets to stop the momentum. The Bulldogs spread the offense and went 7 for 8 from the field during the run. The two traded baskets for the next two minutes. Some clutch free-throw shooting by the Hornets gave them a 35-26 lead at halftime. Gibsland-Coleman came out of halftime ice-cold as they missed eight straight shots from the field and not score in the last five minutes. Arcadia took advantage and burst out a 15-0 run with Anthony burying 5 of his 9 third-quarter points in the drive. The Hornets outscored the Bulldogs 22-4 in the third quarter and took a commanding 57-30 lead. Gibsland-Coleman continued to struggle from the field in the final frame with another four points in the final quarter and Arcadia won 63-34.

Arcadia was led by Quay Crane who scored 14. Anthony Key followed with 12. Kyrese Taylor and Tyler Jefferson each contributed 10.

Marcus Durham scored 10 for Gibsland-Coleman

The tournament continues on Friday with four more games on the slate. Arcadia Lady Hornets will play the Gibsland Coleman Lady Bulldogs at 4:30 pm. Haynesville Lady Tornadoes will take on the Lincoln Prep Lady Panthers at 5:45. Arcadia Hornets will face Plain Dealing Lions at 7:00. Gibsland Coleman Bulldogs will round out the second day with a matchup against the Lincoln Prep Panthers at 8:15
