The cross country season came closer to the state championships with the regional races in Division III, IV, and V. The boys and girls races were all held at Lincoln Parish Park in Ruston last Thursday. Loyola and Cedar Creek boys along with Glenbrook Girls all claimed regional titles for their teams. Claiming individual regional titles were Franklin Roemer for Loyola (Region I-III boys), Jackson Burney of Calvary Baptist (Region I-IV boys), and Ava Brown of Negreet (Region I-V girls).
In order to qualify for the LHSAA State Cross Country Meet a team must finish in the Top 8 of the region. Individuals can also qualify if they are not associated with a team if they finish in the Top 25 of the race. A team must consist of at least five runners from the school.
Region I – III Boys
Loyola Flyers boys blew away the competition and won the regional team crown with 27 points. Franklin Roemer won the boys’ race with a time of 15:44.39. The Flyers placed three runners in the top five. Mark Henry finished behind Roemer in second place in 16:45.34. Carter Ward completed the race in fourth place in 17:12.17. Landon Hooper gave the Flyers a fourth runner in the top 10 finishing in ninth place in 17:51.20. Mathis Stansbury finished 12th overall in the race.
Many Tigers had one runner qualify for the state meet as Lathos Lee grabbed the 25th place.
Region I – III Girls
The Loyola Lady Flyers finished fourth in the team competition with 79 points. The top Lady Flyer runner was Emily Anderson who finished as regional runner-up in 19:28.20. Kathryn Elberson had a Top 20 performance finishing in 11th. Teresa Fields, Isabella Cascio, and Sophia Boggs all gained points for Loyola in the standing.
Lola Carter will represent the Many Lady Tigers at the state meet with her 16th-place finish.
Region I – IV Boys
Calvary didn’t have enough runners to qualify as a team but the Cavaliers will send three runners to Natchitoches next week. Jackson Burney won the overall regional race with a time of 16:00.29. Owen Thomson had a top-10 finish at 7th place with a time of 17:47.33. Eli Haase qualified for the state meet with a 16th-place finish.
Cedar Creek Boys were regional runner-ups with 37 points. Myles Carpenter Head finished as the regional runner-up in 16:25.56. Ethan McCarthy had a top-10 finish at 6th place for the Cougars in 17:44.56. A pack of Cougars had three finish in the top 15 as Joshua McCarthy was 12th, Connor Jackson finished 14th, and Andrew Maxwell was 15th.
Converse Wildcats finished in third place in the region with 74 points. The top Wildcat was Auldyn Sepulvado with a 9th-place finish in 18:01.86. Jacob Foyer completed the race at 18th followed by Andrew Richardson at 19th. Clayton Rivers and Travis Ebarb added points for Converse.
The Choudrant Aggies had a fourth-place finish. Hagen Davis gave the Aggies a top-10 finish at 10th place in 18:01.94. Collin Rozelle, Garrett Spearman, Ren Stephens, and Connor Thompson all gave points for Choudrant.
Quitman Wolverine cross-country squad was sixth with 156 points. The top Wolverine was Gage Horton who finished in 11th place. Braden Smith gave Quitman a top-25 finish at 24th. Jayden Harts, Sean Henry, and Nathan Harvey were all scorers for the Wolverines
Lakeside Warriors finished in seventh place in the teams with 169 points. The top Warrior racer was Gavin Woodall at 35th. Luke Mandino, Peyton Gray, Brandon Bell, and Mason Lilles all added points for Lakeside.
Region I – IV Girls
The Cedar Creek Lady Cougars claimed a regional championship with 29 points. The Lady Cougars had four finishes in the top 10. Kendall Ramsey was the top Lady Cougar in 4th place overall in 20:41.97. Taylor Ramsey, Madison Morris, and Marley Jinks crossed the finish lines within 31 seconds of each other at 7th, 8th, and 9th place, respectively. Madeline Kneeland rounded out the scoring with a 15th-place finish for Cedar Creek.
Converse Lady Wildcats took the regional runner-up spot. The Lady Wildcats had two top 10 finishers in Abigail Bozeman (3rd – 19:36.83) and Zoey Raborn (6th – 20:51.93). Preslye Rivers and Irene Dobbs finished in the top 20 at 14th and 18th respectively. Piper Cacace had a solid top-25 performance in the 22nd.
Quitman Lady Wolverines were fourth in the team competition with 89 points. Megan Kelley was the top Lady Wolverine in 11th place. Morgan Cheatwood was on Kelley’s heels in 12th place. Other scorers for Quitman were Lindsey Woods, Lainee Cheatwood, and Hadas Tilley.
Three individual competitors qualified for the state meet in Region I-IV. Kamryn Rhodes of Choudrant completed the regional race in 17th place. Ariel Gant of Ringgold qualified with a 24th-place finish. Madison McGraw of Lakeside will be heading to Natchitoches with a 25th-place finish.
Region I-V Boys
Castor Tigers gave a third-place finish with 111 points. Hayden Carmouche gave the Tigers a top 5 finish at 5th place in 18:38.70. Dakota Royer raced to a top 15 finish at 15th place. Other scorers for Castor were Seth Pickett, Landon Cross, and Benjamin Warren.
Florien Black Cats completed the regional with a fifth-place finish with 124 points. The top Black Cat was Drake Hershberger in 21st place. Other scorers for Florien were Kennon Richwine, Jared Martinez, Grayson Chance, and Jason Niette.
Glenbrook Apache boys finished seventh and qualified for state. Carson Powell was the regional runner-up in 17:38.33. Trent Clemmons gave Glenbrook a second in the top 10 at 10th place in 19:09.07. Other scorers for Glenbrook were Anotonio Flynn, Nick Kilgore, and Brody Walker.
Region I-V was the only local region that had more than eight schools. Calvin finished 9th and did not qualify as a team, but Aden Coleman grabbed a state meet slot with his 22nd place finish. Doyline’s Zach Moreno will give the Panthers a representative in Natchitoches with his 19th-place finish.

The Glenbrook Lady Apaches dominated the regional teams’ competition with 34 points. Glenbrook had all five scorers finish in the top five. The top Lady Apache was Mattison Fowler with a 4th place finish in 21:55.69. A group of the Glenbrook runners crowded in for top 10 finishes. Eighth-grader Emerson McLelland finished 7th followed by Vivian Still at 8th followed by Laurie Kilgore in 9th and rounding out the team was Hadley Haynes at 10th. A non-scorer for Glenbrook wa Emma Garner who followed in at 11th.
Florien Lady Black Cats were the regional runner-up with 75 points. Lily Sparks gave Florien a top-10 finish at 6th with a time of 22:12.71. Lehr Turner and Kate Ellzy finished in the top 20 in 17th and 18th, respectively. Allie Tarver and Faithlyn Bragg rounded out the scorers for the Lady Black Cats.
Negreet finished third in the team competition but claimed the individual regional champ in Ava Brown who finished in 21:23.50. Allie Payne completed the race with a top-20 finish at 20th place. Other Lady Indian runners were Emma Wilkerson, Alyssa Rhodes, and Sophie Bogg
Castor Lady Tigers finished in fourth place. Last year’s state medalist for Castor Kailey Ann Shirley finished as regional runner-up in 21:25.55. Jenna Braggs also put in a top-20 performance at 16th place. Other scorers for Castor were Avery Jordan, Kimberlyn Short, and Mazzalyn Sullivan.
Calvin girls did qualify as a team in fifth place with 102 points. Dedria Means completed the race in third place with 21:52.61. Dedriana Means had a top-20 finish in 14th place. Other scorers for Calvin were Kyleigh Blundell, Gianna Conzonere, and Kylie Dupree.
The LHSAA Cross Country State Meet will be held Monday, November 13 at 9 a.m. at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches.
