Two local teams are heading back to North West Louisiana state champions under very different methods.  The Calvary Lady claimed their third consecutive state champions with another dominating 13-3 five-inning win over district rival D’Arbonne Woods. The Lady Cavaliers have run-ruled every round of the playoffs.  Converse Lady Wildcats needed extra innings to claim the title from Quitman Lady Wolverines

The Calvary Lady Cavaliers accomplished the “3-peat” and claimed their fifth state title under the guidance of Coach Tiffany Woods.  The title for the Converse is the first in 29 years.  

As for their opponents, D’Arbonne Woods was making their first appearance in the state championship.  Quitman gets their fourth state runner-up. 

Converse 2, Quitman 1 (9 inn)

Division V Nonselect State Championship

Quitman started early as Cali Deal hit a line-drive double to left field.  Maggie Guyotte was walked next putting runners on first and second.  Madison Kaye Brymer pops a single to left field scoring Deal.  Quitman took the 1-0 lead at the end of the first inning.  

Deal continued to dominate on the mound as she cleared three batters with strikeouts.  She had struck out 5 of the 6 batters in the first inning.  

Quitman looked to strike again in the second as Skylar Hall got on with a single.  After a strikeout by Avery Prine and the second out, Madison Chaplin was walked.  Cali Deal was then intentionally walked loading the bases.  Prine delivered another strikeout to get the Wildcats out of the inning.  

Converse got back into the game in the top of the fourth inning.  Summer Brumley hit a double to left field.  Reagan Bennett came in to run for Brumley as a courtesy runner.  Prine follows up with a single and pushes Bennett to third.  Zoey Raborn came in as a courtesy runner for Prine.  Maci Morgan gave a sac bunt to score Bennett and send Raborn to second.  The score was now tied at 1-1.  

Defense and top-notch pitching prevailed for the remaining regulation 7 innings.  Extra innings came for the two teams.  Three up, three down for each team in the eighth inning.

Converse started the ninth with a single by Prine to left field.  Raborn came in as a courtesy runner for Prine.  Morgan again gave up a sac bunt to send Raborn to second.  Kraegan Jordan took another sac bunt and sent Raborn to third.  Facing two out, Abby Friday hits a fly ball to right for a single breaking the deadlock at 2-1. 

Quitman’s last chance was three up, three down, and Converse claimed a state championship in nine exciting innings.  

Avery Prine pitched the win in a complete game with 17 strikeouts.  Prine also batted 2 for 4.  Summer Brumley hit a single

Cali Deal pitched a complete game with 9 strikeouts.  Deal also hit a double for the Pady Wolverines

Calvary 13, D’Arbonne Woods 3 (5 inn)

Division III Select State Championship

DJ Lynch kicked off the Lady Cavs game with a double to left field.  Tavia Leadon reaches first on an error and Lynch stayed at second. Carlie Guile hit a single scoring Lynch.  As Calvary exited the first inning up 1-0.

M Carver started the second on base from a walk.  The floodgates with the return to the top of the lineup.  Lynch strikes again with another double scoring Carver.   Ramsey Walker pops a double to left field scoring Lynch.  Leadon slams one out of the park for a 2-run home run.  Calvary had opened the lead to 5-0.  

Top of the third saw D’Arbonne Woods refuse to go down.  Skains was put on base with a walk.  Newcomb hits a double to left field putting runners on second and third.  Laynie Jones hits a single scoring Skains and Newcomb.  After two outs, Roan hits a single scoring Laynie Jones.  D’Arbonne Woods closed the gap to 5-3 after 2 ½ innings. 

The two stayed close u til the bottom of the fourth and once again the top of the lineup.  Lynch singles to left field.  Walker follows with another single pushing Lynch to second.  Leadon pounds a double scoring Lynch and sending Walker to third.  Mary Grace Woodle answers with a double scoring Walker and Leadon.  Calvary is now up 8-3.  Ella Franks gives the Lady Cavs another single scoring Woodle.  Calvary closed the fourth inning up 9-3.  

The Cavs’ defense closes out the top of the fifth with a double play shutting down another scoring opportunity.  

Abby Sims starts Calvary with a runner with a walk.  Top of the lineup again, Lynch nails another double sending Sims to third. Walker hits another single scoring Sims and Lynch.  Calvary closing in on another run-rule game at 11-3.  Woodle gets another double putting Walker on third.  Two outs and Ella Franks hits a line drive to left field scoring Walker and Woodle and locking up a third consecutive state title for the Calvary Lady Cavaliers with the 13-3 win.  

Kynzee Anderson was the winning pitcher with a complete game and six strikeouts.  DJ Lynch was 4 for 4 including three doubles and an RBI.  Ramsey Walker batted 3 for 4 with a double and 3 RBIs.  Tavia Leadon hit 2 for 4 including a home run and 3 RBIs.  Mary Grace Woodle picked up two doubles and 3 RBIs in her 2 for 3 performance.  Ella Franks hit 2 for 4 with 3 RBIs.  Carlie Guile batted 2 for 4 and a RBI.
