Calvary Kick Around: Cavaliers and Lady Cavs Playoff Bound - Under The Radar - NW Louisiana

The brackets for the LHSAA soccer playoffs were released on Tuesday for the girls and Wednesday for the boys and a little bit of history was made.

The Lady Cavaliers grabbed a 16-seed which means Calvary will host their first home playoff game under Coach Adam Hester.  They will face the No.  17 seed Northlake Christian Lady Wolverines out of Covington.   The Lady Wolverines come in with a 6-6-3 record and won five of their last seven matches.

“This is such a big deal for our girls,” said Coach Adam Hester.  “Hosting a playoff game has been a goal for a couple of seasons. The first time the girls have hosted since 2012. Northlake Christian is an excellent team, we actually played down at their stadium vs Pope John Paul II in last year’s playoff. It might be a 16-17 game but when you look at who they’ve played, we’ve got our work cut out for us.”

The Cavalier boys soccer team will get enjoy a home matchup as their opponent will just have to travel about 15 minutes to Jerry Barker Stadium.  The Cavs grabbed right outside the “bye” range at No. 9 and will play district rival No. 24 Evangel.  Calvary took a 2-0 win over Evangel in the district, but that doesn’t mean it’s a pushover game for them.

“The boys hosting for the second time in three years is something we don’t take for granted, but we know we missed a big chance to get that first-round bye,” said Coach Adam Hester.  “District rematches are also tricky, we know we’ll get Evangel’s best game. We have to be great Thursday night to get a chance at traveling to Newman next week.”

Both Calvary teams will take to the pitch on Thursday at Jerry Barker Stadium.   Lady Cavaliers will begin at 5:00.  Cavaliers will kick off at 7:30.
