Calvary Boys Golf Finishes Third Place In LHSAA State Golf Tournament - Under The Radar - NW Louisiana

The Calvary Boys Golf Team finished third place in the tightly contested Division IV golf tournament. The Cavaliers took five golfers to The Wetlands in Lafayette on May 4 and 5.

After the first day, first through third place for the teams were within two points of each other. Ouachita Christian led the pack with 347. St. Edmund followed with 348. Calvary sat in third place on both their heels with 349.

The three teams stayed in their positions after the final results were tallied with Ouachita Christian winning the Division IV state championship with 673. St. Edmund’s received the state runner-up with 702. Calvary fended off a strong second-day performance by Episcopal of Acadiana to win a third-place by 4 strokes and a 711 score.

As much as the team race was tight, the individual portion of the competition was more compact. Four golfers were tied for the lead with 75 after the first day. Adam Trahan from Episcopal of Acadiana, Caden Lester from Ouachita Christian, Jace LeJeune from Hathaway, and Harry West from St. Edmund were all knotted for the lead.

The Cavalier’s strong performance on day one was helped by Kannon Savage who was in sixth place after the first day with an 82. Savage improved him from eighth after the first nine holes shooting a 42 to sixth shooting 40 on the back nine. Hunter Harris was in 12th with an 87. Bryce Carpenter shot a 38 on the back nine to reach 14th with an 88 on Day One. Tyler Jones shot 92. Ezra Smith finished with 108 on the first day.

The second day saw the four leaders continue to battle for the individual state champion award. Caden Lester from Ouachita Christian prevailed shooting par for the second day and finishing with 147. Trahan, LeJeune, and West all finished tied for second with 148.

Calvary’s Kannon Savage finished in a three-way tie for sixth place with Dylan Duran of Lacassine. Both shot 158. Tyler Jones improved from a first-day 24th place appearance to finish at 13th with 176.

Savage’s top 10 finish is the first time since fellow Cavalier Sam Burns won the Division III championship in 2014.
