The BPCC Cavaliers won both games in a doubleheader over the Nunez Comunity College Pelicans 14-1 and 16-2 at Southeastern back on September 18. The Cavaliers played their only home game on the schedule and produced defeated United Baseball 9-1 and 13-1 last Sunday.  

BPCC 14, Nunez CC 1 (Game 1, Sept 18)

The Cavaliers proved they could be a run generator as they scored in seven of the nine innings for the win.  BPCC started in the first with a double by sophomore Gabriel Cabrera who scored Walker who had previously walked.  Cole Ketzner pushed Cabrera to third with a line drive to left field.   BPCC scored again as a sacrifice fly to center field from Collin Young.  Cabrera tagged and scored.  The Cavs took a 2-0 lead out of the first inning.   The second started hot as Justin Breen popped a double to left field.  Connor Crowson smacks a home run for a two-run shot over the left-field fence to give BPCC the 4-0 lead.  In the third, Ketzner and Young get back-to-back singles.  Treyson Smith grounds out to the pitcher but pushes Young and Ketzner to second and third, respectively.  Ketzner scores on a passed ball and Young moved to third.  Crowson strikes again with a double to right field scoring Young.  BPCC’s lead increased to 6-0 after three innings.  Fourth inning Mason Hammonds gets walked but Gabriel Cabrera drives him in with a double.  Cavs up 7-0 after four innings.   The Chalmette-based team loads the bases behind two walks and a single by Smith.  Gavin Baird hits a fly to center but  Young tags home to push the lead to 8-0.  Nunez finally gets on the board in the 7th with a single to left field.  BPCC roars back with their strongest inning.  Smith gets on base with a single.  Breen gets popped batting and puts runners at first and second.  Crowson nails another home run over the left-field fence.  The Pelicans are rattled as they walk Baird.  Luke Bogan hits a double off a line drive to the center.  Baird is pushed to third.  Baird scores on a fielder’s choice to shortstop where Bogan is tagged out at third but Baird scores as BPCC continues the rout at 12-1.  In the 9th, Breen is walked.   Crowson doubles to right field.  Breen moves to third.  Bogan gets on by an error by the pitcher and Breen scores.  Kameron Edwards flys out to center but Bogan tags up to score.  BPCC takes the 14-1 win.

Connor Crowson went 4 for 5 including 2 HR and 2 doubles and collecting 6 RBIs.  Gabriel Cabrera went 2 for 4 including 2 doubles and 2 RBIs.  Luke Bogan picked up a double and an RBI.  Justin Breen sole hit was a double as he was walked three times. Kameron Edwards collected 2 RBIs off a sac fly.  Edwards also stole two bases.  Gavin Baird and Collin Young each pick up an RBI.  Treyson Smith and Cole Ketzner each get two singles.  

Zachary St. Pierre gets the win with an inning pitched and 2 strikeouts.  Cameron Duke also struck out two in an inning.  Thomas Walsh and Jordan Spring got one strikeout in two innings each.  Noah Torres pitched a “K” in one inning.  Jacob Hernandez and Aden Harris each tossed an inning. 

BPCC 16, Nunez CC 2

Nunez struck in the first inning after the second batter walked.  A single pushed the runner to second.  Back-to-back walks gave the Pelican the 1-0 lead after the first inning.  Top of the third, Jake Harvill gets on with a double.  Caleb Clines takes one for the team putting runners at first and second.  A strikeout leaves the runners on base as the Pelicans maintained their 1-0 lead after 3 innings.  The BPCC bats wake up in the fifth inning.  Aden Harris and Kade Massey hit back-to-back singles.  A walk by Austin Smith loads the bases.  Nate Moore hits to second base and gets Smith out but scores Harris.  Runners are now on the corners for the Cavs.  Whitt Rogers hits a worm burner to left field scoring Massey and gives the Cavaliers their first lead at 2-1.   The lead didn’t last long as Nunez tied it in the bottom of the fifth at 2-2.  BPCC counters with a big 6th inning.  Jake Harvill starts the inning with a blast to center field for a triple.  Zachary Van Gorkom gets walked putting runners on the corners.  Adam Garcia gets a hot to right field scoring Harvill and pushes Van Gorkom to second regaining the lead for the Cavaliers.  An error by the right fielder allows Van Gorkom to round third and head home.  Garcia reached third on the same error.  Massey hits a line drive to left field scoring Garcia and BPCC lead has stretched to 5-2.  Massey goes to second on a wild pitch.  Pinch hitter Dre Amaral adds another single and another run.  BPCC leads 6-2 after 6 innings.  If the sixth inning was big for the Cavaliers, the 7th would be bigger.  Dean Guidry starts the inning with a double.  Guidry advances to third on a wild pitch.  Back-to-back singles by Clines and Simon Grinberg scored two more runs for the Cavaliers.  Harvill and Van Gorkom are not hit by pitches loading the bases.  Garcia singles to right field scoring Grinberg and giving BPCC the 9-2 lead.  Bases are still loaded.  Harris is walked and another Cav run is scored at 10-2.  After a strikeout and two outs for a bad inning for the Pelicans,  Lobell is walked and BPCC gets away with the 11-2 lead in the seventh inning.  The Cavs gave up a quiet eighth inning but finished the last inning lighting up the scoreboard.  Top of the ninth, Garcia and Van Gorkom are both walked.  Harris stretches his single

To second base and scores Garcia.  BPCC leads 12-2.  Massey hits a grounder to shortstop and gets out first but scores Van Gorkom.  Lobell walks and puts runners on the corners once again.   Amaral hits a line drive too short and scores  Harris to give the Cavs the 14-2 lead.  Lobell moves to second.  Nunez loads the bases again by hitting Rogers with a pitch.   Guidry hits a line drive to left field and scores Lobell and Amaral.   BPCC ends the top of the ninth up 16-2.  The Cavaliers hold on for the win.  

Jake Harvill goes 2 for 3 with a double and triple in the win.  Dean Guidry also goes 2 for 3 with a double and had 2 RBIs.  Whit Rogers finished 2 for 3 including a double and an RBI.  Adam Garcia and Dre Amaral batted 2 for 3 and 2 RBIs.  Aden Harris went 2 for 4 and 2 RBIs.  Kade Massey added two singles and 2 RBIs.  Caleb Clines and Simon Green each popped a single and added an RBI.  Logan Lobell and Nate Moore each collected an RBI.  

Camden Kay got the win pitching 1 inning and 2 strikeouts.  Trevor Wall shut down all batters in his 1 inning to bat with 3 K’s.  Lance Stonebreaker, Justin Mays, and Troy Morrell all pitched an inning and had two strikeouts.  Gage Coffman pitched a strikeout in one inning pitched.  Ethan Vandement, Matthew Jeffrey, and Miles Justin all pitched a single inning

BPCC 9, United Baseball 1 (Game 1, 5 innings)

The Cavaliers opened up a 4-run second inning and never looked back against United Baseball.  Gavin Baird started a hit streak by the Cavs in the second with a single to centerfield.  Austin Smith followed with another single and pushed Baird to second.  The United right fielder made an error and Baird headed to third and rounded the horn to home.  Smith rushed to second and stretched to third.  Garcia hits a worm burner to right field and Smith scores giving the Cavs a 2-0 lead.  Luke Bogan makes hot four singles in a row with a grounder to second.  Mason Hammonds is walked and the Cavs have loaded the bases.  Connor Crowson hits a line drive left field scoring two runs.   BPCC holds on for a 4-0 lead after two innings.  United Baseball blasts a home run to close the gap to 4-1.  The Cavs got on another hot streak in the third.  Justin Breen blasts a screamer over the left-field fence to push the lead to 5-1.  Baird and Smith struck again with singles and put runners on the corners.  Garcia hits to

first base and gets out but scores Baird and pushes Smith to second.  BPCC ends the third up 6-1.  Hammonds starts the fourth with a walk in the fourth.  Gabriel Cabrera hits a double to left field and pushes Hammonds to third.  Cole Ketzner clears the bases on a three-run shot.  BPCC takes a 9-1 lead into the final innings.   BPCC moves to 3-0 in fall ball.

Ketzner slammed a home run and gathered 3 RBI.  Breen’s solo home run shot gave him an RBI.  Cabrera pushed a double for the Cavs.  Crowson and Garcia each had a hit with 2 RBIs.  Bogan and Hammonds each had a single. 

Noah Torres picked up the win with 4 strikeouts and 2 innings pitched.  Trevor Wall tossed two innings with 2 strikeouts.  Garrett Lott closed out with an inning and two strikeouts. 

BPCC 13, United Baseball 1 (Game 2, 5 innings)

The first batter for the Cavaliers set the tone for the rest of the game.  Cole Antonelli nails a fly ball over the left-field fence.  Caleb Clines follows up with a single.  Clines advanced to third on a passed ball.  Simon Grinberg gets walked and placed runners at first and third base.  United’s third baseman makes an error on Luke Bogan’s hit to load the bases.  Kade Massey hits into a double play but allows Clines to cross the plate and Grinberg to reach third.  Jake Harvill knocks a double to left field scoring Grinberg.  BPCC takes the 3-0 lead at the end of the first inning.  United added a run in the second.  The Cavaliers got hot in the third.  Amaral and Moore hit back-to-back singles.  Antonelli walked and loaded the bases with a walk.  Clines gets walked and United walks in a run.  Grinberg hits a triple scoring Moore, Antonelli, and Clines.  BPCC increased their lead to 7-1.  Bogan backs up the triple with his own double scoring Grinberg.  BPCC ends the second up 8-1.  Austin Smith strikes out three batters in the top of the third.  Massey starts the third with a walk.  Harvill gets on by error by the pitcher.  Van Gorkom gets walked and once again the Cavs have bases loaded.  A passed ball allows Massey to score,  Harvill moves to third.  A wild pitch scored Harvill and Van Gorkom moves to second.   Rogers pops a single and moves Van Gorkom to third.   After a pop-out, Moore hits a pop fly to right field, Van Gorkom tags up at third to push the score to give BPCC an 11-1 lead in the third.  United’s pitching woes continued in the fourth as walks for Clines, Bogan, and Massey stacks the bases once again for the Cavaliers.  Harvill hits a line drive to left field for an out, but Clines tags up for home to 12-1.  Last inning Amaral hits a single.  Moore hits a triple to score Amaral and moves BPCC 4-0 for the fall season.  

Antonelli’s opening home run gave him his sole hit and RBI.  Nate Moore went 2 for 3 including a triple and 2 RBIs.  Grinberg’s sole hit was a triple that picked up 3 RBIs.  Luke Bogan hit a double and gained an RBI.  Jake Harvill picked up a double and 2 RBIs.  Chris Clines got a single and an RBI.   Amaral hits two singles.  Rogers gets a single. 

Lance Stonebreaker gets the win with 2 innings of work and four strikeouts.  Austin Smith pitched an inning and struck out all three.  Thomas Walsh closed out the last two innings and three strikeouts.  

The Cavaliers will head to UT-Tyler over the weekend for four games.  Friday at 3 pm they will face Navarro College.  At 6 pm the Cavs will take on Tyler Junior College.  Saturday,  BPCC will get another shot at Navarro.  Sunday they will close out against Paris Junior College
