The NJCAA released the All-Academic Teams and our local Cavaliers and Lady Cavalier placed twelve on the list of 8,272 students.  To qualify for first team honors, the student must achieve a 4.0 GPA.  Second teams honorees have scored between a 3.80 and 3.99 GPA.   Finally, third-team honors are bestowed upon students who reach between 3.60 and 3.79 GPAs.

Considering classes were mainly online around the country. Dr. Christopher Parker, NJCAA President & CEO acknowledges grasping for these top awards in a difficult year for the student-athletes.   “Despite obstacles and adjustments, NJCAA student-athletes rose above challenges to display widespread academic success this year,” said Dr. Christopher Parker. “It is incredible to see these individuals competing again and accomplishing rich athletic and academic success concurrently, we commend their efforts.”

Baseball and softball proved there is more than just being stirred up on the diamond, they are taking up the work in the classroom.  The breakdown of the twelve shows that baseball placed eight on the All-Academic Teams.   Softball added three.  Men’s Basketball added one player.   Of the 12 players making the list two made first-team honors,  three made second-team honors, and seven made third-team honors.  The lone basketball player, Jeremy Richard is also the sole Cavalier freshman to make the list.

William “Beau” Ross is a sophomore right-hand pitcher that comes from Many High School in Many, Louisiana.  Ross finished the year 1-1 for the season and one save.   The Cavalier pitcher average over six strikeouts a game.

Another right-hand pitcher for the Cavaliers, Daniel Shafer was the other first team honoree.   Shafer hails from near the Houston area in Willis, TX where he attended Willis High School.    Shafer made 15 appearances for the Cavaliers and was 3-0 and had five saves.   Shafer had an ERA of 5.51 and struck out 27 for the season.
