Bluegoose Falls To First Place Texas United - Under The Radar - NW Louisiana

The Bluegoose took their first bump of the season with a 1-0 loss to first-place Texas United at Mayo Field on Saturday evening.  The loss dropped them to fourth place in the standing but they have played only two matches where most other teams have played three or four.

The Dallas-based Texas United came out aggressively and maintained possession for the majority of the first half.  The Bluegoose backline pushed the ball midfield mostly but United did get into their third of the pitch.  United had four corners in the first 20 minutes.  Bluegoose got a scare in extra time of the first half as it looked that United had finally broken the line and scored.  An offside flag called the goal back and the two teams went into halftime with no score.

The Goosers opened the second half on the attack and quickly took a shot that was saved by the seasoned Texas United team.  Bluegoose had a couple of opportunities for corners but still could not crack the goal line.  For the first ten minutes, it was a midfield battle with a spattering in the Bluegoose third.   Texas United regained control and rushed to their third of the goal gaining a couple of corners and firing a couple of shots.  About the 61st minute, Texas United’s  Adrian Rentiera found an open Emil Jaaskelanon to score the back door goal.  The Texas United backline continued to protect their goal lead and pushed the ball back to midfield.  The Shreveport team finally gained an opportunity but the shot went high  over the goal.   Around the 74th minute, United went on another breakaway but the goal was saved by Brett Ekperouh.  Bluegoose continued to try to break the backline but only managed a couple of times with a shot or two.  Texas United held on for the 1-0 win.

Adam Morris managed to fire two shots for Blue Goose.  Johan Arevalo took a shot.   Marc Fellu and Marten Weintschke each took a shot and received a yellow card.  Juri Schlingmann and Luke Sowerby were handed yellow cards.

Brett Ekperouh made 8 saves and gave up one goal.

Texas United outshot Bluegoose 10-5 for the game.  United also received 10 corner kicks to Bluegoose’s 2.

Bluegoose will play an intrasquad matchup on Saturday, May 28 at Mayo Field.  All advance ticket is $3.18 ($5 at the gate).  Kids are free.  They will return to USL2 action next Wednesday, June 1 as they will travel to Little Rock to go round two with the Little Rock Rangers.   Bluegoose won 3-0 over the Little Rock Rangers in their last matchup.
