The Homer Lady Pels stopped an undefeated district season for the Haynesville Lady Tors with a 34-24 win on Thursday evening on Senior Night at Homer High School. The win by the Lady Pels now forces a district championship game to be played on Saturday at neutral site Arcadia High School at 2 pm.
The two Claiborne Parish rivals were even after the first quarter at 6-6. Haynesville then went cold in the second quarter and the Lady Pels took advantage. Jordan Shelton bucketed six points and Kerston Webb swished her second three for the game. Marissa Tell tried to keep Haynesville close with two 3-pointers in the second. Homer had opened a 19-12 lead in halftime.
Haynesville were still cold going into the second half as Tell scored the only field goal in the third. Shelton and Webb each added a three to extend the lead for Homer to 27-14 after three quarters.
Za’Kharria Jones and Tell tried to bring the Lady Tornados back into the game with a 3-pointer each as Homer struggled to find the basket. Webb scored the only field goal for the Lady Pels. Tell had flirted with fouling out with four fouls. The come back was not enough as Homer stole away an outright title from Haynesville with the win.
The dynamic matchup between the two rival teams will culminate on Saturday afternoon at 2 pm in Arcadia as the girl’s District 1-A title will be on the line.
