The North Louisiana Regional Powerlifting meet was held in Monroe this past weekend and nine local lifters qualified in the Division V Championship.
Calvary qualified seven lifters for the March event. Junior Jordan Byrd won the 220 weight class lifting 625 on squat, 375 on bench, and 500 on dead lift for a total of 1500 lbs. Byrd also qualified first overall in Class A. Donovan Teddlie grabbed a runner-up medal in the 242 weight class. Teddlie lifted 485 on squat, 285 on bench, and 465 on dead lift for a total of 1235. Other qualifiers for the Cavaliers were Dalton Creech (114, 4th), Dalton Lang (165, 5th), Sam Davis (132, 7th), Cynsere Richard (181, 9th), Josh Purvis (220, 9th). Calvary boys team finished fifth overall with 15 points.
Defending state champion from Ringgold, Tyrin Cunningham, once again pushed for a repeat as champion by winning the 181 weight class. Cunningham lifted 430 squat, 275 bench, and 500 on dead for a total of 1205.
Homer’s Jarek Shelton will give the Pels a representative in the state competition with a ninth place finish in the 148 class. Shelton is the first Pelican to qualify for state since 2019.
The Division V Championships will be held at ULM’s Ewing Coliseum on March 24.
