The LHSAA held appeal hearings for 16 school districts about 4.4.4 select\/non-select classifications in Baton Rouge at the LHSAA headquarters.  Local groups from Caddo Parish and Jackson Parish had mixed results in their appeals.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Caddo Parish\u2019s attempt to reclassify the majority of their schools from select was denied.  Caddo had pulled the appeal for Huntington but others were still involved.  Loyola and Calvary were already classified as select in the previous definition, but Green Oaks and North Caddo will now be considered select schools due to the magnet components of the system.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also, Jackson Parish\u2019s open enrollment had been put into the select group, but their appeal was accepted.  Jonesboro-Hodge, Quitman, and Weston will now be considered non-select.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Along with the results of the appeals came the restructuring of the playoffs for those sports that are considered a split.  This includes football, basketball, softball, and baseball.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new structure will have four divisions of select and non-select.  These will only be used during the playoffs.  Teams will continue to play in their current districts.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Football will allow 28 teams for non-select and 24 teams for select.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Basketball will feature 32 teams for non-select and 28 teams for select.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Softball and baseball will have 32 teams for non-select and 24 teams for select.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The mixture of the division has seen a hodgepodge of Division III with 2A, A, and B schools.  Division IV is a mix of A, B, and C schools.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some teams will have an odd mix of divisions.  Loyola will play in select Division III for football, baseball, boys basketball, and softball, but will play for a select Division II title in girls basketball.  A similar occurrence is happening to Lincoln Prep where the boys basketball will be competing in Division IV while the girls will be competing in Division III.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The playoffs will provide an interesting mix of games.  For example, Class B Quitman and Weston have been competing for the Class B titles for years.  Now you throw in fellow Jackson Parish Class 2A team that will compete for the same title as their fellow parish school in Division III.   All the Bienville Parish schools will be competing for the same state title in Division IV.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n
