Coach Randy Carlisle gave his Rebels a special opportunity to close out the season by bringing them to Bossier Parish Community College to play against the Weston Wolves on Saturday afternoon. They showed their appreciation with a 73-34 win. “I thought we played well,” Summerfield coach Randy Carlisle said. “We’re just trying to get better and better and making each better together. I saw a lot of ball movement and a lot of rhythms. When you do that most of the time you get a better shot selection and high percentage shots. We just need to be a little more patient and have court sets and run with it. I’m really trying to get everybody out of their comfort zones.”

The game was also an opportunity to move the Rebels up to the No. 1 spot in Class C. Before the game, the Rebels were at No. 3. The Rebels seized the opportunity and as of 7 pm on Saturday, the Rebels had moved into the No. 1 spot according to Louisiana Sportsline Power Rankings. “What this game did for us moved us up to No. 1 in Class C,” Carlisle said. “That was big, but numbers don’t mean anything in Class C. There are a lot of good teams, if anything, the No. 1 seed is one of the toughest roads to take to the championship game.”

The Rebels jumped on Weston fast in the first quarter as they went on a 20-2 run. Weston was not allowed to score in the first five minutes of the first quarter. Jamaria Anderson bucketed six points in the first quarter and Deontai Levingston added another five points. Summerfield took the 22-4 lead into the second quarter.

Summerfield continued to dominate into the second quarter. Jamaria Anderson continued to be on fire with another nine points. Eddie Kennedy came into the equation for the Rebels as he added 11 points. Anderson was not only an offensive threat but he added five steals in the first half. Hayden Hightower was a behind the scene offensive juggernaut with six assists in the first half. The Rebels took a 44-17 lead into halftime.

Coach Carlisle started to rotate some of his bench into the game in the third quarter. Weston offense started to spark some as Jace Holt added five points for the Wolves. Marcus Coleman came out and scored six points. The Rebels continued to roll in the fourth quarter and finished out with the win.

Jamaria Anderson led the Rebels with 21 points and 7 steals. Eddie Kennedy finished with 15 points. Derrick Royal netted 11 points and 8 rebounds for the night. Hayden Hightower fed his team with 6 assists.

Jace Holt was the top scorer for the Wolves with 12 points. Hunter Strickland scored 6 points but was strong under the boards with 8 rebounds and fed his team with 6 assists.

Summerfield will now have to wait 10 days until playing again. Before last night’s win over Fairview at Summerfield, the Rebels had a two-week break. “We’ve had a lot of rest, in fact, a two-week rest before last night and today,” Carlisle said. “Now we’re coming back from that big rest. So we’ll regroup and work on our half-court sets and play little better defense. I’m a defensive coach and we need a lot of improvement in that.”

It’s a question of rest versus rust coming out. Will too much rest hurt the Rebels in the playoff? After watching the Rebels today, I would say they are well-rested and ready to romp and roar through the playoffs. Beware of those in their path…
