It’s taken a while, but the boys from Shreveport United will be playing in the postseason for the first time in club history. It took a comeback tie in Lafayette against Cajun Rush and the 10-0 win by Louisiana Krewe over Central Texas to secure the final spot for the Western Conference. With the Krewe win also, they clinched the Western Conference.

As Shreveport United had handed Louisiana Krewe their only loss this season, Cajun Rush came into the game with momentum giving Krewe their only tie on Wednesday night. Cajun Rush proved it was not going to be an easy night for United. Austin Clause gave Rush the first goal of the game in the 30th minute. Cade Trahan made another first-half goal to give Cajun Rush the 2-0 lead heading into halftime.

Cajun Rush may have had the 2-0 lead but an unfortunate red card in the 62nd minute by Dallas Mouton would change the momentum of the game. Cajun Rush would have to maintain with a 10-men crew. It didn’t take long for United to take advantage. Steve Bush closed the gap to 2-1 a minute later. Rush attempted to maintain their lead with fresh leg with Cameron Trahan making an appearance in the 72nd minute. United went for a mad rush in the final ten minutes to gain a point. Carlos Martinez (84th) and Steven Bush (87th) minute each received yellow cards. More fresh legs came in for Cajun Rush in the 85th minute with Tulio Garcia coming in for Austin Clause. Steven Bush struck again in the 89th final two minutes to salvage the point in the standing. That point would be enough to clinch the final spot in the playoffs.

“It’s a huge achievement to be going to the postseason with Shreveport United, a club I grew up playing for,” said Steven Bush. “It makes it a little more special. After two tough losses in the middle of the season, we had to reset and refocus on what style best fit our team with the players we had. We made some chan the past five games show the potential this team has. With one game left, we have already secured a playoff game and with another result in our last game versus Red River we might get a home game.”

The two playoff spots from Western Conference may be wrapped up, but bragging rights for Northwest Louisiana are on the line as United will face crosstown rivals Red River FC in the final matchup of the regular season on Saturday at 7:15 pm.
