The big question of the week would be who would be going to practice on Thanksgiving week with a turkey leg in tow. First round byes got their opportunity to show off and they didn’t disappoint. A double overtime thriller upset with one of our local teams. Two major quarterfinal matchups coming up.
Many 21, Richwood 0
USC commit Tackett Curtis showed out for the opening playoff game for the Many Tigers as he scored two rushing touchdowns against the Monroe-based Richwood Rams. Jeremiah James added another touchdown for the shutout.
Arcadia 18, White Castle 12 (2OT)
The Arcadia Hornets headed down south and brought back a double overtime upset victory against the White Castle Bulldogs. Quarterback Rodtravious Jackson reached the end zone on all three touchdowns for the Hornets. Markecion Carr had 16 carries for 84 yards. The defense shined in the victory for the Hornets. Valerian Haulcy forced two fumbles. Omarion Carr had a crucial interception. Ryheem Abney also had a forced fumble. Isaiah Jackson had 11 tackles (7 solo, 8 assist). Tyreun Fields added 9 tackles (7 solo, 4 assist). GeAuntre Nelson took 8 tackles (6 solo, 4 assist). Dimitri Carr Jr. grabbed 5.5 tackles (1 solo, 9 assist). Haulcy also had 5 tackles (2 solo, 6 assist)
The Bulldogs opened with a 14-yard touchdown pass and took the 6-0 lead. Jackson scored in the second quarter on a 1-yard run to tie the game at 6-6. White Castle reached the half-yard line and the Hornets stuffed the scoring opportunity. The two stayed tied at 6-6 at halftime and the game stayed that way to the end of regulation.
Jackson scored in the first overtime but no conversion. White Castle matched but failed on conversion and sent the game to double overtime. White Castle threw an interception in the end zone. Jackson crossed the goal line for the trip to the quarterfinals.
Haynesville 36, Oakdale 16
Haynesville is heading to the quarterfinals with a big win over Oakdale. Toby Franklin rushed for 14 carries for 123 yards and two touchdowns. Alonzo Jackson scored twice for the Golden Tornado. Jaylen Green had 13 carries for 88 yards.
Toby Franklin gave the Tors the first score in the first quarter on a 28-yard run. Haynesville led 7-0 after the first quarter. Alonzo Jackson added his 11-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. Oakdale closed the lead to 13-8 after a scoop-n-run on a 12-yard fumble recovery. Elijah Bray kicked a 37-yard field goal with 3 seconds left in the half to take the 16-8 lead into halftime. Franklin added his second touchdown crashing into the end zone on a 1-yard run in the third quarter. Jackson scored his second touchdown on a 28-yard run. Haynesville led 29-8 after three quarters. Isiah Washington added a 35-yard touchdown run to push the lead to 36-8. Oakdale added a late score but too late as Haynesville advanced to the quarterfinals for the third consecutive year.
Homer 52, Delhi 7
The Pelicans continued to make a repeat trip to a state championship with a win over Delhi. Elyjay Curry had 11 carries for 83 yards and two touchdowns. The Pels used two quarterbacks in the win. Andrevious Buggs and Berman Hamilton each tossed two touchdowns. Katrevick Banks, Jamarquese Hampton, LaMichael Greer, and Spencer Dunn all had receiving touchdowns. The defense wanted to get into the fun. Walteze Champ and Gregory Williams added defensive scores.
Logansport 46, East Feliciana 16
The Logansport Tigers unleashed Jayven Claybrook and scored four touchdowns against the East Feliciana Tigers. Khameron Boykins also scored for Logansport.
Calvary 52, Northlake Christian 0
The Cavaliers gave a shutout performance against Northlake Christian. James Simon led the rushing attack with 14 carries for 106 yards and two touchdowns. Julius Moss reached the end zone once. Abram Wardell threw for 307 yards and four touchdowns and led the air attack supplied for the Cavaliers. Aubrey Hermes had 6 receptions for 109 yards and a touchdown. Jay Simon, Kolby Thomas, and James Simon all had receiving touchdowns.
Glenbrook 42, Catholic-P.C. 21
The Apaches remained undefeated after its first LHSAA playoff game. Quarterback Ty Feaster passed 14-for-26 for 242 yards and four touchdowns. Turner McLelland had 6 receptions for 99 yards and two touchdowns. Cason Clemons added 3 receptions for 84 yards and a touchdown. Rhett Johnson added another Apache receiving touchdown. DJ Carter had 13 carries for 176 yards and a touchdown. Tre Kent broke loose for a 23-yard touchdown run. On the defense, Rhett Johnson caused havoc with 10 tackles. Maddox Mandino took 9 tackles. Landry Powell and Hayden Harmon each had 8 tackles. Garrett Brown had 5 tackles. Kent and Clemmons snatched interceptions.
St. Mary’s 45, Hanson Memorial 0
The St. Mary’s Tigers dominated the second round over Hanson Memorial. Adam Parker and Ethan Busby did the damage with 5 receptions for 223 yards and three touchdowns. Parker was 11-for-19 for 296 yards. Joe Metoyer carried in two touchdowns with Parker taking the option on one touchdown. Drake Griffin led the defense with 8.5 tackles. Parker, Braylon Normand, and Logan Watson each had 6 tackles.
Patterson 36, Winnfield 12
The Winnfield Tigers exited the playoffs facing 3A Patterson.
Patterson scored first on a 9-yard run and kept the 7-0 lead after the first quarter. The Lumberjacks added a 15-yard field goal. Trey Starks broke free for a 75-yard touchdown run to close the gap to 10-6. The Tigers didn’t get to celebrate long as Patterson returned the kickoff for an 85-yard touchdown. The Lumberjacks added another 10-yard touchdown pass before the end of the half. Patterson led 24-6 at the half. Patterson scored a late third quarter 2-yard touchdown run. Patterson took their 30-6 lead into the final quarter. Malachi Jackson connected with Jake Norsworthy on a 15-yard pass to get to 30-12. Patterson added one more touchdown to move on to the quarters.
Episcopal 10, Loyola 7
The Loyola Flyers fell in the final two minutes on a 25-yard field goal. Cooper DeFatta scored a 1-yard touchdown run in the second quarter to give the Flyers a 7-0 halftime lead. Episcopal tied the game in the fourth quarter with a 7-yard run. The fateful season-ending field goal eliminated Loyola.
Vermilion Catholic 31, Cedar Creek 7
The Cougars were eliminated by the top-seeded Vermilion Catholic Screaming Eagles. The lone score by the Cougars was from Lane Thomas.
Parkview Baptist 28, North Caddo 24
Quarterfinal Preview
No. 7 Logansport at No. 2 Homer (Division IV Nonselect)
The Pelicans and Tigers will have a rematch of the Class A state championship from last year. Homer came out on top breaking an 82 year streak. The Tigers have a potent quarterback in Khameron Boykins who can use strong players like Jayven Claybrook who scored four touchdowns in the second round. The Pels have some defensive giants like Walteze Champ, Jamarquese Hampton, and Gregory Wiilliams. The Tigers will also have to watch Elyjay Curry and his ground attack. It’s also one of two local games as all divisions except one other game, Mangham at Arcadia will be on the road.
Glenbrook at Ouachita Christian (Division IV Select)
it will be a matchup between the District 1-A champion at District 2-A champ. The 11-0 Apaches will have their biggest challenge of the year. The two teams have like opponents in Cedar Creek and River Oaks. Glenbrook defeated Cedar Creek 12-6 while OCS defeated Cedar Creek 34-10. Glenbrook defeated River Oaks 46-14 while OCS won 48-0. OCS is looking to make a fourth consecutive trip to a state championship. Glenbrook is in its inaugural playoff run and has several key performers like Ty Feaster, Turner McLelland, Maddox Mandino, DJ Carter, and many others. Can the newbie (Glenbrook) knock off the perineal powerhouse (Ouachita Christian)?
