The Saline Lady Bobcats opened the 2020 season with doubleheader wins over 3A Loyola Lady Flyers on Monday night. Saline won the first game with an 18-3 victory and game two 17-2.

Lady Bobcat pitcher Cambry Bates started with a good season pitching a total of 9 strikeouts (6 in Game 1, 3 in Game 2) and starting 2-0 for the season. She not only had a great night on the mound, but drummed up some offense going 4 for 4 with two triples, a double, and 3 RBIs.

The Lady Bobcats started Game 1 with a walk by Ava Toms. Toms stole around the bases to steal home to give the early lead. The next two batters also reached on a walk and a hit by pitch. Bates blasted a sacrifice fly ball to centerfield to bring in two more runs. Saline took the early 3-0 lead.

Saline continued to be strong in the 2nd inning adding 11 runs. Pitching woes continued for the Lady Flyers as they walked the first four batters and seven in total for the inning. The Bobcats didn’t allow the runner to stand on the bases as they stole for 15 bases in the inning including 4 steals at home. Allyson Roberts hit to centerfield scored two more runs for the Lady Bobcats. Saline took a commanding 14-1 lead into the third inning. Bates took all three outs in the second with strikeouts.

Loyola managed two runs in the third but wasn’t enough as the Saline scored another 4 in the third to win Game 1 18-3.

The Lady Bobcats defense shut down the Lady Flyers in the first inning not allowing any runs. Saline had a massive first inning as they picked up 8 hits and capitalized on two errors as they accumulated 11 runs. Jordan Williams cleared the bases with a blast to centerfield that was bobbled and picked up 3 RBIs. Alyssa Peoples and Cambry Bates picked up doubles. Bates hit her first triple of the night in the first.

Lady Flyer’s Chloe Hall hit a shot to left field to start the second. Allie Deyo hit to left field scored Nevah Owens to close the score to 11-2. Pitching and field woes continued for Loyola as Saline added another 3 runs to increase their lead to 14-2.

Saline would add another three runs in the bottom of the third to close out Game 2 with the 17-2 win.

Ava Toms had a strong day for the Lady Bobcats going 4 for 5 with six stolen bases. Kylie Bates finished strong also going 3 for 5 with
3 RBIs and 5 stolen bases.

The Lady Bobcats will bring another doubleheader against the Ringgold Lady Redskins on Thursday afternoon in Saline at 4 pm.
