The Providence Knights will head to Greenville, Mississippi on Tuesday to start the first round of the MAIS South 2A Regional Tournament at Greenville Christian School. The Knights hit a rough slide towards the end of the second half of district play. PCA entered the second half with a 2-1 record.

Union jumped out to an early 13-6 lead in the first quarter. The Lions had a massive second-quarter burying four 3-pointers and piling on 24 points. Union Christian took a 37-18 halftime lead. Jordan Orr had a strong third quarter for the Knights nailing three 3-pointers for an 11 point quarter and closed the gap to 10 points. The Lions roared back in the fourth to take the 61-46 win. Jordan Orr finished with 17 points and Sage Beleau bucketed 13.

The second matchup was against Claiborne Academy. Jordan Orr, Charlie Bradshaw, and Jonah Droddy bombed 3-pointers to start against the Rebels. Despite the air attack by the Knights, Claiborne Academy kept pace and took the 13-12 lead after the first quarter. Orr fired two more threes and Bradshaw bucketed another. Six of the seven field goals for PCA were from beyond the arc. Rebels stayed close and took a slight two-point lead at 23-21 into the half. The Knights struggled in the third only scoring four points. Claiborne Academy jumped at the opportunity. Sage Beleau attempted to revive Providence in the final frame but not enough falling 44-39. Orr scored 16 and Beleau 10 for Providence.

The Knights once again opened up close in the first quarter. Glenbrook took the early 14-11 lead in the first. The Knights once again hit a scoring drought scoring only a single field goal from Beleau. The Apache’s Maddox Mandino pounded in 10 points in the second quarter. PCA was down 28-18 at the half. The Knight got hot once again behind the arc. Orr rocketed two 3-pointers and Grant Gordon added another. Unfortunately, Glenbrook got hot at the same time. Cooper Chase for the Apaches scored two threes and DJ Carter and Peyton Well added one each. Glenbrook was up 44-35 heading into the fourth quarter. The dial turned down for the Knight only scoring four points and Glenbrook cruised to the 53-39 win. Sage Beleau netted 12 points in the game.

The Knights finished in third in their district and now have the opportunity to change their fortunes with the start of the South 2A Regional Tournaments. The Knights will have to face the host team Greenville Christian School Eagles in the first round on Tuesday at 4:00 pm.
