This week’s power rankings for January 7th issue of the LHSAA Basketball Power Rankings didn’t move very much last as local teams finished out holiday breaks and got back into the second half of the season and prepare for district play.

Doyline Panthers moved a step closer to regaining the top spot as they moved up one spot to No. 2 in Class B.

District 1-A boys can both boast three teams in the Class A top ten. Lincoln Prep inched up one spot to No. 3 with a 9-4 record. The Panthers competed last weekend in the Allstate Sugar Bowl National Prep Classic. Since they played three out of state teams, this should not affect their power rankings. Arcadia split 1-1 with a loss to Jonesboro-Hodge on Friday and a win over Lakeside earlier in the week. The Hornets stayed at No. 7 for another week. Homer slipped a spot to No. 9 after going 1-2 in the past week. A win against 5A Benton in the Bossier Tournament gave the Pelicans a boost in the power ranking points.

Summerfield, Calvary, and New Living Word all stayed at the same position in their respective classes. Summerfield Rebels are at No. 3 in Class C. Calvary split 1-1 last week but remained at No. 3 in Division IV. New Living Word dropped a game to Haynesville but stayed at No. 7 for another week.

On the girls side, District 1-A ladies can also boast of three teams in the top ten. Lincoln Prep Lady Panthers were dormant last week but still managed to move up from No. 8 to No. 7. Haynesville was steady for another week at No. 3 with a win over 3A Richwood at home. Despite knocking off 3A Union Parish on Monday night, the Lady Pels slipped down to No. 10.

Summerfield Lady Rebels keep threatening that No. 1 spot. The Lady Rebels moved up one spot to No. 2 after a win over Plain Dealing last Friday night. The Gibsland-Coleman Lady Bulldogs have yet to play a team in Class C and keep piling on the bonus higher class power ranking points. They remained at No. 5 for another week.

With the holidays now over, we should see some movement next week. Don’t expect too much, though. As the season gets closer towards the playoffs, the positions will start to become more set.

Remember the LHSAA states that the weekly power rankings are unofficial due to not confirmed, not played, postponed, disputed or canceled games.
