The Demon cross country opened the season in Lake Charles at the McNeese Season Opener.  LSU, McNeese State, Stephen F. Austin, Northwestern State, and Alcorn State sent teams to compete.  LSU won both the men’s and women’s competition.  

LSU dominated the Women’s competition but McNeese’s Jeny Barcenas won the competition with a 10:20.56 finish.  LSU won the team competition with 20 points. LSU captured 2nd place through 11th. The top LSU runner was Gwyneth Hughes who finished second with a time of 10:22.19.  McNeese finished second in the team competiton with 47 points.  The Lady Lumberjacks of Stephen F. Austin were third with 88 points.  Landry Parker was the top SFA runner at 12th place with a time of 10:54.94.  Northwestern State’s top finisher was Lalaina Wood at 23rd finishing the race at 11:52.16.  Leah Thompson (25th), Chesney Matthews (27th), Faith Bryant (29th), and Samantha Tordaro (30th) all gained points for the Demons.   Alcorn State finished with 122 points and their top runner was Teresa Gallagos in 22nd place.  

LSU also took the team title with 27 point.  The individual race went to Stephen F. Austin’s Riley Elliot with a time of 14:31.90.  LSU’s top runner Casey Goetschel finished 2nd in 14:47.37.  Stephen F. Austin finished second place in the team competiton with 44 points.  McNeese Cowboys were third with 51 points.  Ryan McCarthy was third overall finishing in 14:56.60.  Northwestern State finished fourth with 125 points.  The top Demon runner was Korbin Shuamate in 24th.  Other scorers for NSU for Owen Rue (29th), Landon Loyd (30th), Benjamin Brasseaux (34th), and Kaden Elliot (35th).  Alcorn State also had 125 points and its top runner was Alcoius Kipngetich at 20th place in 15:57.76.
