Local teams decided to try to squeeze in a few more games at the end of 2020.   Most when they return to school next week will be diving into district action.

Castor Lady Tigers pulled two road wins on the road in the final week of 2020.  The Lady Tigers were originally scheduled to play Negreet on Monday night but got postponed until a 2 pm tip off on Wednesday afternoon.  The Lady Tiger just pushed off a 42-35 win until then.  Kailyn Long swished three 3-pointers to her 19 points.  K. Smith had a second-half surge netting 10 points.   The Lady Tigers took care of the North DeSoto Lady Griffins on Tuesday night with 50-23 win.  Long stepped up big with 16 points.  Timeria Gray added 10 for the win.  The Castor boys team fell at the hand of 15 3-pointers by North Desoto.  Not many teams could survive that bombardment behind the arc.  Jamarion Clark led the Tigers with 13 points.  Cade Young pounded the boards for 9 rebounds and 6 points.  Austin Cooper scored 3 points but had 7 rebounds and 5 assists to add.

Class 5A Airline hosted a mixed match of District 1-A opponents on Tuesday night.

The Lady Vikings hosted Haynesville while Plain Dealing took on the boys.   Haynesville had a rough first quarter as Airline went on a 12-0 run to take a commanding 21-8 lead in the first quarter.  Grambling commit Marissa Tell got into foul trouble early as she carried 3 fouls into the second half.   Airline took a 33-19 lead into the half.  Haynesville struggled to find the basket in the third as they only put four points with Marissa Tell scoring the only field goal of the quarter.  Airline was up 42-23 heading into the final frame.  The Lady Tors closed the gap behind Tell’s closing 6 points but fell short by 13.   Marissa Tell continued to be a stat compiler as she scored 18 points, 8 blocks, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists.  Zakharia Jones bucketed 11 points.  Jamaila Hicks crashed the boards for 11 rebounds.  For the Lady Vikes, Kori Rice scored 19 and 9 rebounds.   Toria Brock bucketed 12 along with 8 rebounds, 6 assists, and 6 steals.

For the boys,  the Vikings had to fight off a late Lion’s run to pull out the 70-65 win.  The Lions took the early lead with the 15-11 first-quarter lead.  Airline opened the second quarter with a 6-0 run to led by a three and another basket by Bryson Broom to surpass the Lion lead.  Cedarius Johnson ended the run by popping a three.  Devin Bilbo got another 6-0 run going for the Vikes later in the quarter.   Woods became a mainstay for the Vikes in the second with eight points in the quarter.  Airline built a comfortable 34-26 lead to the half.  Keionje Perry took the reins for the Lions with 10 points for the third quarter.  The problem was Bilbo had a strong third also as he scored 11.  The Vikings maintained their 8 point lead heading into the fourth.  The aggressive fourth opened with Darrien Perry going 3 for 4 from the charity stripe and adding another basket to close within 3.  A questionable foul called on Airline resulted in a technical foul.  Darrien Perry nailed the two three-pointers and Plain Dealing was within 1 with 6:40 remaining.   A layup by Carnez Hillmon and the Airline lead had vanished at 55-55 with 5:31 remaining.   A bucket by Boyd saw the 1A team take their first lead since the second quarter.   Free throws became key the remainder of the game.  Woods and Bilbo’s free throws gave Airline the lead again at 59-58 with and further free throws by Trey Jackson, Colby Oglee, Bilbo, and Woods slowly added to a five point lead. Bilbo basket with 57 seconds remaining increased the lead to 7.  Keionje Perry tried to close the gap with a three, but baskets by Bilbo and Jackson countered.  Keionje Perry buried a final three with no time remaining but too late as Airline pulled out the win.   For the Vikings,  Devin Bilbo picked up a double-double with 31 points and 13 rebounds.  Devarrick Woods netted 11 with 8 boards.  Bryson Broom scored 8 and 5 rebounds.  Freshman Trey Jackson pocketed 6 points and 5 rebounds.  The Lions roared with Keionje Perry 19 points, 8 assists, and 5 steals.  Darrien Perry netted 16.  Cedarius Johnson pocketed 15 points.  Boyd grabbed 12 rebounds and 6 points.
