The LHSAA State Powerlifting Meet was held at the ULM Fant-Ewing Coliseum this past weekend in Monroe.  The boys from Division III, IV, and V Went first on Thursday.  The girls from all classifications competed on Friday.  

Two local lifters had top-notch performance and finished in the Top 5 of the Division V Overall Best Lifter in the Heavy Platform.   

Jordan Byrd from Calvary captured the state championship in the 220 weight class.  Byrd lifted 630 squat, 395 bench, and 475 on the dead lift for a total of 1500 lbs.  Byrd was second overall in Division III, IV, and V In the 220 class.  Byrd was a state runner-up in the 242 class last year.

Ringgold’s Tyrin Cunningham now can claim a back-to-back state champion.  Cunningham claimed the 181 title with a 435 squat, 280 bench, and 510 deadlift.  Cunningham also finished third as the Best Overall Heavy Platform Lifter.

Calvary sent two others to the podium in the male powerlifting event.  Donovan Teddlie finished in second place in the 242 weight class. Teddlie lifted 465 on squat, 285 on bench, and 510 on the deadlift.  Pushing his way into third place was Dalton Creech in the 114 class for the Cavaliers.  Creech lifted 265 squat, 145 bench, and 290 deadlift for a total of 700 lbs.  

Calvary Girls Powerlifting finished third place overall in the team competition.  Emma Grace Lazarus became state runner-up in the 105 class.  Lazarus finished ninth in the Best Overall Light Platform competition.  Breanne Jones also grabbed a state runner-up title in the 114 class.  Senior Cavalier Iley Chism made the medal platform finishing third in the 105 class.   Other lifters who added points to Calvary team score were Molly Harris (4th, 132), Endly Chism (5th, 123), Mireya Roberson (5th, 220), Avery Fore (6th, 97), and Cantley Mulford (6th, 114)

Haynesville’s senior Courtney Ogden took a state runner-up in the 97 weight class.  Ogden lifted 149 squat, 70 bench, 185 deadlift.  Fellow teammates Zaelayasia Johnson and Haivein Thomas finished sixth in the 165 class and 185 class, respectively.  

Castor’s Ananiah Johnson finished in fourth place in the SHW division. Johnson was five pounds from finishing on the podium.  The sophomore Lady Tiger lifter completed a 365 squat, 150 bench, and 270 deadlift for a total of 790 lbs.  First-time state competitor Stormy Watson grabbed points for Castor with a sixth-place finish.
