The LCU Lady Wildcats (0-3) dropped both matches in the second day of the Rams Invitational in Mobile, Alabama.  LCU lost 3-0 to Southeastern (FL) and 3-1 Dillard University in the evening matchup.  

Despite the two losses, Leah Stamps became the Lady Wildcats all-time digs leader according to the Louisiana Christian University Athletic website.  Stamps reached the milestone in the first matchup of the day against Southeastern (FL).  Stamps currently sits at 865 digs after todays two matches.  

Southeastern (FL) 3, LCU 0 (20-25, 13-25, 20-25)

The Southeastern Fire of Lakeland, Florida swept the LCU Lady Wildcats 3-0 sets in the first match of the second day of the University of Mobile tournament.  Abby Revell led the Lady Wildcats with 6 kills.  Emma Cother led assists with 15.   Jessica Smith served two aces for the Wildcats.  Katie Spell and Mallory Wills each had 3 block assists.  Stamps once again led the digs category with 21.  

The Fire tried to run away early in the first pushing a 3-1 lead but LCU stayed close to tie and move back to a one point lead at 4-3.  The two were knotted at 6-6 before Southeastern went on a 7-1 run which included three kills from Cambry Pope and gave the fire a 13-7 lead.  LCU got back into the match and closed in to 14-11 on errors made by the Fire.  Pope rallied Southeastern again on a 7-2 run and their lead expande to 21-13.  Katie Spell’s assisted block with Mallory Wills followed by an ace by Spell kept the Lady Wildcats in the set at 21-16.  Southeastern held on for the 25-20 first set win.  

LCU started the second set early with a 3-2 led eith kills from Summer Martin, Spell, and Revell.  Southeastern roared back with a 9-1 run which included three consecutive kills by Angelina Vacarro.  The Fire led 11-4. LCU kept pace and stayed to within 15-10 until Southeastern went on a 5-1 run which included two kills from Pope as the Fire led 20-11.  Southeastern ended the second set going on a 4-0 run and taking the second set 25-13.

The third set saw the two stay close to Southeastern maintaining a slight 8-6 edge.  Southeasterns fired of a 4-0 run sparked by back-to-back kills by Yarelis Lopez.  LCU closed the gap as Kierra Jones collected two kills and an ace, also a block by Spell and Jones, and another ace by Jessica Smith.  LCU had cut the lead to 17-15.  The Fire took back control on a 5-1 run with two more kills by Lopez and an ace by Shannon McGee.   Southeastern had a 23-17.  LCU tried to stay in the match but Southeastern took the sweep with 25-20.

Dillard 3, LCU 1 (21-25, 22-25, 26-24, 11-25)

The two Louisiana schools had to go to Mobile to face each other in the evening in an entertaining  matchup.  Kierra Jones led the Wildcats with 13 kills and led defense with 6 block assists.  Cother collected  31 assists and was top in aces with 3.  Three Lady Wildcats were in double digit digs with Leah Stamps with 15 leading along with Katie Spell having 14 and Cother with 12.  

The Wildcats and Blue Devils stayed knotted 6-6 in the first set.  Dillard went on a 7-1 run led by two kills from Aiko Helper.  Dillard jumped up to 13-7.  The Blue Devils maintained the lead to 19-11.  Jones nailed three kills and Jessica Smith ace pulled the Wildcats within 20-17.  Dillard jumped back to 23-18 from kills by Ajanae Chatham and Aiko Helper.  Campbell and Wills brought LCU to 24-21.  Dillard’s Makaela Swoopes closed out the first set for the Blue Devils

LCU took the early lead but Dillard stayed close at 5-4.  Scores from Cother and Mallory Wills along with an ace from Stamps expanded the lead to 10-6.  Dillard took a 5-0 run and the 14-12 lead mainly behind three consecutive aces by Cadence Thomas.  LCU regained the lead at 16-15  on a 4-1 run which included kills by Megan O’neal and Summer Martin.  Dillard jump back in the lead on another 4-0 run to have the 20-17 lead.  LCU cut the lead and tied the second set a 21 as Martin, O’Neal struck again and added a kill from Jones.  Dillard closed out the competitive second set on a 4-1 run to take the 2-0 lead in the match. 

Once again the Lady Wildcats opened the set with an early lead which was hard to maintain at 4-3.  LCU caught a break and capitalized on some Blue Devil mistakes along with a Cother kill to go on a 4-1 run and the 8-4 lead.  Dillard back within two at 8-6 before the Lady Wildcats went ona 7-2 run with Jones getting three more kills and gave LCU the 15-8 lead.  Dillard bounced back on its own 7-2 run sparked by two kills from Helper and other ones from Sarah Da Silva, Vanae Sapp, and Sarah Rogers.  The Lady Wildcats lead had vanished to only 17-15.  Martin and O’Neal tried to restablish the comfortable lead to 19-15 but errors by the Wildcats Nd an ace by Nevaeh Bax closed the third set to with one at 19-18.  Dillard finally caught up and tied at 22.  A Wildcat error gave the Blue Devils their first lead at 24-23.  The Wildcats needed an extra point for the set but kills from Katie Spell and Malory Willis gave LCU the third set 26-24.

LCU’s Cother opened the third set with back-to-back aces and a 3-0 lead.  Dillard eventually caught up on a 4-1 run and tied at 4-4.  Dillard took control with a 6-1 run which included two kills from Sara Da Silva.  Dillard had jumped out to 10-6 lead.  LCU tried to close in to 11-8.  Dillard took advantage a number of errors and went on a 9-1 run and had a comfortable 21-9 lead.  Cadence Thomas and Vanae Sapp closed out the match 3-1 for the Blue Devils.

LCU wraps up the Rams Invitational with a noon match against Florida Memorial and 2 pm against SUNO on Saturday.
