The Providence Classical Academy Knights moved into a first-place tie in the district after a 50-44 road win over the Union Christian Lions in Farmerville last Friday night.  Union Christian and Providence both sit atop the district standings with a 3-1 record.  

The Knights’ Cole Thornton was the hot hand as he buried 6 three-pointers for 29 points.  Thornton shot 6 for 8 from beyond the arc.  Jonah Droddy scored 8 of his 10 points in the final quarter. 

Thornton started PCA with two three’s in the first quarter along with a couple of free throws as the Knight’s led 11-10 after the first quarter.  

The Lions roared back in the second as Providence struggled to score in the second period and we’re outscored 13-7.   Union Christian took a 23-18 halftime lead.  

Thornton found his groove again as he buried three 3’s for a nine-point third quarter.  Union Christian kept the Knights close as they maintained a three-point lead heading into the final quarter. 

Providence was sent to the charity stripe 14 times in the final quarter.  The Knights 8 successful shots were the difference. Droddy and Thornton both dropped 8 points in the final frame to pull out the key district win.

PCA will finish district play this week as they will have their final home game on Tuesday night against Claiborne Academy and finish with a road trip to Minden and take on Glenbrook.
