Providence Classical Academy boys took their district record to 2-1 with a 52-43 win over Glenbrook Apaches on Tuesday night at PCA.  The Knights had a heartbreaking 53-50 loss to Union Christian where Bowman Lovel busted 17 points.  Paxton Lovell scored 12 and captured 7 rebounds.  Cole Thornton added 4 with 5 rebounds.   PCA rebounded with a 47-42 win over Claiborne Academy on the road.  Brother Paxton took the lead with 14 points and 6 rebounds.   Cole Thornton bucketed 12 points and 7 assists.  Bowman Lovell could only play two quarters but accumulated 10 points going 3 for 4 from beyond the arc.   This put the Knights in a second-place tie at 1-1 in the district.   The Knights took the lead over Glenbrook tonight.

Paxton Lovell started his scoring tone for the night as he busted a three for the Knights’ first score.   Cole Thornton started a late 7-0 run for the Knights as PCA held a 15-10 lead at the end of the first.  Paxton Lovell had already scored 8 in the first quarter.  

Paxton Lovell continues his scoring prowess in the second quarter scoring nine of the Knight’s 11 points.  Lovell also pounded the boards for 7 rebounds in the first half.   PCA went to the locker room with a 26-17 lead over the Apaches.  

Cole Thornton went on a feeding frenzy with three assists in the third quarter as he pumped passes for scores to Paxton Lovell and Jonah Droddy.  Droddy buried two 3-pointers in the third.   The Apaches outscored the Knights in third 17-16 mainly behind Peyton Wells 10 points.  PCA took an 8-point lead into the final quarter.  

Glenbrook made a comeback in the fourth closing the gap to 42-38 behind a basket by DJ Carter and a pair of free throws by Cooper Chase.  The Knights countered with four more points by Lovell.  Glenbrook called timeout.  Droddy scored again pushing the lead back to 10.  Tense action on the court saw the charity stripe becoming a factor.  Glenbrook scores three free throws and a basket by Johnathan Parkerson to close within five again. Lovell’s drive to the basket creating an “and one” situation along with another free throw from Thornton sealed the  Knight’s win.  

Paxton Lovell finished with a double-double with 31 points, 11 rebounds, and 5 steals.  Cole Thornton netted 9 points, 7 assists, and 7 rebounds.  Jonah Droddy finished with 8 points and 6 rebounds.  

Peyton Wells led the Apaches with 15.  DJ Carter added 11 points and 9 rebounds.

“Big win for our program, ” said PCA head coach Trey Pittman. “Glenbrook has a great team. We played really hard and made some big shots at the right time.”

Glenbrook jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first quarter as Wiley’s three with 2:32 left in the first was the first points for the Lady Knights.  The Lady Apaches took a 17-5 lead into the second quarter. 

Despite trying to close the gap by Wiley and Abby Hamm, Glenbrook extended their lead to 31-16 at halftime.  

PCA kept pace with Glenbrook the remainder of the game to the 52-35 loss.  

Abby Hamm was the top scorer for the Lady Knights with 11 points and 9 rebounds.  Wiley scored 9 points and 6 rebounds.  Davis popped the net for 6 points and 5 rebounds.  Crenshaw scored 5 with 7 rebounds. 

PCA will be on the road on Friday with a second go-round with Union Christian in Farmerville.
