Marissa Tell normally has shown at least a double-double. She didn’t quite get those numbers, but still impressive numbers for the night. Tell scored 21 points, six steals, seven blocks, and six assists. Not bad for a night. Powerhouse Shontellas Shine commanded the lane as she grabbed eight rebounds and 17 points. Za’Kharria Jones scored 14 points and picked off four steals.

HAYNESVILLE TORNADOS (2-3) 55, CASTOR TIGERS (2-14) 48

The game started with an emotional celebration of the life of Riley Jinks and the retirement of his Castor basketball No. 0 jersey. Jinks passed away in August this year from a horse-riding accident.

Haynesville started fast as they kicked off the game with a 9-0 run fueled by threes from Alford and McDaniels. The Tors began their struggles with turnovers. Three turnovers in the final three minutes allowed the Tigers to get back into the game. Alford netted three 3-pointers in the first quarter. A bombardment of threes including a buzz beater by Jeffrey Wallace pulled Castor back to within 19-11. The turnovers continued to hold back Haynesville. Moving from firing from the arc to driving the lane allowed Haynesville to maintain their 8 point lead going into halftime. Wallace continued to have his three-point attack adding another couple of threes. Jamarion Clark entered the mix with seven points in the third quarter. Despite being down as much as 12 points, the Castor Tigers closed the gap to 40-34 at the end of the third quarter. The two traded baskets into the fourth quarter. A tip-in from Drake Freeman put the Tigers within four points at 51-47 with 55 seconds remaining. Haynesville went on a fast break and Wallace broke up the play by knocking the ball out of bounds. Coach Edwards seeing the lead diminish and momentum swing towards Castor decided to call a timeout. Xarius Hardwell nails a basket with 26 seconds remaining to extend the lead to 53-47. A pass out of bounds by Castor starts to show a close for the Tors. Not yet. A technical foul on Haynesville with 32 seconds remaining. Puts Wallace on the free thrown line and possession. Wallace makes one of the two. Wallace misses his next shot and a drive by the Tors to a lay up. Alford rebounds the shot and passes to McDaniel. McDaniel goes up for the layup for Haynesville. Jamarian Clark is there to meet with the block…or so was thought. The ref whistle blows for the foul. McDaniels seals the win with both free throws.

Haynesville’s Eric Alford popped three 3-pointers and scored was Eric Alford with 17 points. J. French bucketed 12 points. Xarius Hardwell chipped in 11 pointes.
