Gibsland-Coleman decided to end 2019 with a 5A big dog Ruston Bearkats at home. The Lady Bearkats had to go to overtime with the Lady Bulldogs to determine their matchup. Ruston barely edged the Bulldogs in their final game of 2019.

RUSTON LADY BEARKATS (8-11) 42, GIBSLAND-COLEMAN LADY BULLDOGS (16-6) 41 OT

The defense was the name of the game in the first quarter as neither team could generate much as the Lady Bulldogs led 4-2 going into the second quarter. Baleigh Haulcy popped a three to spark the Lady Bulldogs, but Ruston stayed close at halftime 14-10. Samora Sampson’s three and Jamaya Jackson’s four points weren’t enough as the Bearkats outscored 12-9 and take the one-point lead heading into the fourth quarter. The Lady Bulldogs baskets by Ke’Honesty Williams and Ariachay Stevens pulled Gibsland-Coleman back even at the end of regulation tied 33-33. C. Washington for Ruston bucketed six points in the extra frame to push the Bearkats past the Bulldogs despite Sampson’s five points in overtime.

C. Washington’s strong overtime six-point performance was part of her 12 point night. I Brown scored 10 for the Bearkats.

Jamaya Jackson led Gibsland-Coleman with 13 points. Samora Sampson bucketed 11 points.

RUSTON BEARKATS (6-8) 61, GIBSLAND-COLEMAN BULLDOGS (9-12) 55
Ruston spread the offense around and all were hit as they took the early 15-9 lead after the first quarter. The Bearkats limited Gib to the two field goals. Three’s by Marcus Durham and Kee’Tyrrie Abney brought the Bulldogs within two points at halftime as they trailed 28-26. Williams continued to taunt the Bulldogs with six points in the third quarter. Durham attempted to match him with a three and another field goal along with with some clutch free throws as Ruston took a 43-41 into the fourth quarter. Belton for the Bearkats added William’s offense as they finished out the win for the Bearkats.

Williams netted 16 for Ruston. Belton chipped in 10.

Marcus Durham bucketed three 3-pointers on his way to 24 for the Bulldogs. Kee’Tyrrie Abney pitched in 15 points.

Gibsland-Coleman gets to enjoy the rest of their Christmas break as they will return to action on January 7 when they travel to play Doyline.
