Doyline picked up the 26th straight win with an 85-57 victory over the Cedar Creek Cougars on Homecoming Night for the Panthers. The Doyline Panthers wrapped the regular season with a 29-2 record.

Javeon Nelson led the Panthers with 18 points. Decari Markay bucketed 16 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 steals. Jordan Fuller contributed 11 points and 5 assists. M. Young pounded the boards with 9 points and 8 rebounds. Jamaria “Juicy” Clark picked up 8 points and 7 assists.

Guyette for Cedar Creek was the top scorer with 14. B. Moss netted 13 points.

The Panthers played their normal pounce and run away. The Panthers started with a 12-0 with Decari Markray leading the way. Doyline then ended the first quarter with another double-digit run capped off by a three-pointer by Jamari Markray to seal the 25-7 first-quarter lead.

Doyline switched up their rotation with some bench in the second quarter and the Cougars closed the gap but nothing out of control. Decari Markray and Nelson had control with 8 points each in the second quarter alone. Doyline took the 48-22 lead into the locker room.

Bringing the starter back in the third, pushed the lead to 35 points in the third. It was Jordan Fuller’s time capitaize. Fuller buried a three on his way to 9 points in the third. Doyline took the 76-41 lead into the final frame.

Doyline gave some quality time to the bench in the final quarter as the Panthers closed out the regular season with the win.

“Finishing off the season with a 29-2 record in this fashion was nice,” Doyline Coach Mike Normand said. “But as I told the boys, you’re not going to be remembered for what you did in the regular season. Not this team. This team has the chance to go down as one of the, if not, the best team in Doyline history. We’ve only had two losses right now. Doyline’s only had one other team do that and they didn’t finish it out as they were. That’s what I just challenged the boys. The guys on the ’45 and ’67 state championship teams are legends around here. I challenged my guys if they want to be legends it’s out there in front of them to go get it.”

The playoffs will be announced on Monday afternoon for all classes. Doyline is looking to expect a No. 2 seed and receive a first-round bye. This means that they will not play their first game until 11 days from now. It’s looking to shape up a home game against either Mt. Hermon or Choudrant.

Just remember you have to have a streak of five wins in the playoffs to bring home the trophy. The 26 before won’t give you the five, but they can give you the momentum to push through that five.
