District play is fully engaged now as District 1-B kicked off play on Thursday and Friday night.  It looks as if the girl’s race is going to be as interesting as the tri-district championship was last year.  

Doyline Lady Panthers pull off the first district win of the season with a rebound by Nea Feaster off of a missed Castor free throw and took it the length of the court with 5 seconds left to get the 58-57 win at home.   Unnika Miller had a massive 32 points for the Lady Panthers.  Nea Feaster scores 12 along with her game-winning shot.  Castor Lady Tigers’ leading scorer was Kalena Smith with 17.  Jalexia Caldwell added 14.

Doyline Lady Panthers picked up another win on Friday night with a 56-43 win over Lakeside.  Layla Baker bucketed 25 for the Lady Panthers.  Miller collected another 12.

Doyline boys continued their path to defending their state championship with their first district.   Doyline’s Jamaria “Juicy” Clark netted 12 of his 33 points in the final quarter.  Jamari Markray was close to his teammate with 31.  Armandre Dotie added 12.  Jamarrion Clark scored 17 of his 22 points in the second half for Castor.  Thad Bates got hot beyond the arc with 4 tre’s and 16 points. 

Saline had to go to overtime with Dodson to pull out the 60-54 win.  Ethan Roberts went an impressive 8 for 8 from the free-throw line to his 20 points. Titus Jackson popped three 3-pointers for 17 points for the Bobcats.  Blake Clifton added 4 points in overtime as part of his 10 points.  Caleb Barton nailed five 3’s for the Panthers for his 19 points.  Quinton Edwards scored 14.  Beau Canter netted 13.

Class C No. 2 Gibsland-Coleman Lady Bulldogs decided on a Saturday afternoon matchup with Class 4A No. 2 Huntington Lady Raiders.  The Lady Bulldogs stunned the Shreveport school 70-63 at Gibsland-Coleman.  The high scorer for the Lady Bulldogs wasn’t even a high schooler as eighth-grader Samora Sampson scored 22 against the powerhouse team.  Senior Jamaya Jackson bucketed 15.  Ke’Honesty Williams scored 12.   This wasn’t the only bigger school they took down this latter part of the week.  The Lady Bulldogs defeated 2A Jonesboro-Hodge 62-43.   Ke’Honesty Williams was the lead scorer with 23 points.  Jamaya Jackson collected another 12. 

Calvary Cavaliers continued to run the table in District 1-A for the boys as they beat Ringgold 77-46 on Friday night.  The Cavaliers put three with double-doubles.  Daniel Ortiz scored 25 points along with 16 rebounds and 7 assists.  Labree Williams bucketed 17 points, 12 rebounds, and 6 blocks.  Ben Ponder grabbed 10 points and 10 rebounds.   Martin McDowell swished 14 points.  Will Bagley contributed 11.  Jabari Adams led the Redskins with 11 points

Not all was bad for the Redskins over the latter part of the week.  Ringgold grabbed a non-district 58-32 win over Weston on Thursday night.  Keesean Johnson had a stellar night with 23 points along with 6 rebounds and 5 assists.  Teravion Weathers scored 13.  Jordan Cook and Sabien Walters we’re crashing the boards with 9 and 8 rebounds, respectively. 

Homer Lady Pelicans moved into first place in the District 1-A race with a 29-27 win over Haynesville on Friday night.  Kerston Webb led the Lady Pels with 9 points.  Marissa Tell was the leading scorer for Haynesville with 10 points, 8 rebounds, 6 steals, and 5 blocks. Jameka Hicks grabbed 10 rebounds

Homer boys also found success on senior night as they moved to third in the 8-team district with 77-35 win over Haynesville. D’Anthony Kimble led Pel players with 19.   Takeviuante Kidd added 15.  TyMarkus Tate scored 11.  Carterious Burns finished in double-digits with 10.  

The early week is going to be a chance for Gibsland-Coleman to lock up the boys and girls district with a win over Summerfield on the road Tuesday.  Doyline will be on long trips all week with district trips to Dodson and Saline.  COVID has thrown a kink in the District 1-A races as Plain Dealing boys and Lincoln Prep is out at least the early part of the week.  Check out mid-week to see how these matchups finish.
