The District 1-A season was supposed to start tomorrow night with the Calvary-Ringgold matchup, but due to COVID-19, that game had to be canceled. Calvary found an opponent quickly and it was one of the best in the state.

All games will be played on Friday this week. Here is the preview for this week:

CALVARY CAVALIERS (1-1) v. ARCHBISHOP RUMMEL (1-0)

Not very often does the Shreveport-Bossier area get a Catholic League team to watch. They are getting the defending Division I state champion Raiders against the powerhouse Division III Cavaliers. Rummel’s matchup against Archbishop Shaw was canceled due to COVID concerns and the two teams get a shot at each other. The question is can district leading passer Landy Lyddy continued his air attack against. this squad

MAGNOLIA CHARTER MARINERS (1-1, 1-0) v. HAYNESVILLE GOLDEN TORNADOS (2-0, 1-0)

The Mariners are coming off a historic win in their first program victory. Can Joshua Jefferson option get away from the Tors defense and pull off the big upset? It’s going to be tough as the Tors get to show out in front of the home crowd for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic began. They have a lot of weapons in the form of Xavier Henderson, Jontavion Brown, Ty’Rell Gill, and Kedric Grider on the ground attack.

LINCOLN PREP PANTHERS (0-2, 0-1) v. HOMER PELICANS (1-1, 1-0)

The Panthers will continue to play on the road as they have to head north to Claiborne parish seat and face the Homer Pelicans. The Panthers have only scored 7 points in their first two games. Homer bounced back from a first-week loss to capture a road victory over the Arcadia Hornets. The Panthers will have to suffer the crushing defense behind Tamarean Grant who has 18 tackles in two games. The Pels will also unleash running back Demije Patterson who has accumulated 178 yards in their two games.

ARCADIA HORNETS (0-2, 0-1) v. PLAIN DEALING LIONS (1-1, 0-1)

The Hornets will have their hands full trying to contain Ladavious Scott who has burst through with 175 yards was is averaging 14.58 yards per carry. The question to look for is will the Lions offense be able to get past Arcadia’s Ja’Qualon Crane who had 13 tackles last week against Homer. The Lions will also have to watch for quarterback Tyler Jefferson as he was adding rushing yards to also his passing yards on the option runs.

Look for individual stories on each game next week.
