According to Geaux Preps website power ranking for Class 1A and Division IV, three teams from District 1-A are currently in the top 10 rankings.

The Haynesville Tors and their undefeated season at 4-0 currently sit at No. 3 in the most recent rankings. The district leading team has largely been able to avoid any cancellation due to COVID-19 although they have played teams that have to cancel games. The Tors has mainly faced district teams with one out of state competition against West Sabine TX. They are one of three teams in Class 1-A rankings that currently at 4-0. The Tors will get their challenge in the last two weeks as they face the currently other two undefeated district records with Homer and Calvary.

Speaking of Homer, the Pels cracked the Top 10 at No. 10. Homer currently has a 3-1 record with a 2-0 district record that currently has them in second. The Pels gained some valuable bonus points by reaching up to play 2A Holy Savior Menard and North Caddo. Homer will have their hands full as the Calvary Cavaliers roll into town on Friday night.

Calvary Cavaliers may have only played one district game during the season, but the 2-2 record sees them sitting at No. 3 in Division IV select division. The Cavs are riding on a strong schedule pushing up their rankings. They may have lost to the 5A Byrd Yellows Jacket and 5A Rummell Raiders and their combined 6-1 record and playing up 4 classes twice are boosting their power ranking points. Their win against Arkansas 5A Clarksville shows that playing with the big boys can definitely benefit your rankings. It should not only benefit their rankings but give them good prep for playoffs in a few weeks.

PREVIEW WEEK 5

CALVARY CAVALIERS (2-2, 1-0) v. HOMER PELICANS (3-1, 2-0)

These two teams are squads that have severely been affected by cancellations by COVID-19. Calvary has only played one district game but the Cavs haven’t slacked on the opponents they have faced. Homer has been averaging 28 points a game. Can Calvary’s defense who has piled up the tackles stop the scoring offense? Homer defense will have to survive the air attack of Landry Lyddy to Joseph Wilson and Jordan Wallace.

HAYNESVILLE GOLDEN TORNADOS (4-0, 3-0) V. LINCOLN PREP PANTHERS (0-4, 0-3)

Haynesville homecoming matchup against the Lincoln Prep Panthers should be straight forward with a win. The Panthers have scored 21 points for the season. The Haynesville Tors ground attack of Kedric Grider and Jontavion Brown should be potent against the Panthers.

ARCADIA HORNETS (1-3) v. HAUGHTON BUCS (3-1)

The Hornets stepped up to be the Bucs homecoming date after Southwood Cowboys had to cancel due to COVID-19. The Bucs are a defensively stingy team and like to grind the clock. Haughton is averaging a little over 14 points a game behind their young offense. Arcadia will be bringing scoring machine Tyler Jefferson who has scored more points than the complete Haughton offense this year. Jefferson may run into a very senior defense that keeps the opponent’s offense in check.

PLAIN DEALING LIONS (2-2) v. RIVER OAKS (1-2)

The Lions had to find an opponent after the cancellation due to COVID-19. They found an opponent that is in their probationary first year in LHSAA in River Oaks Mustangs. River Oaks moved from MAIS to LHSAA this year. The Mustangs gained their first win in LHSAA with a 14-0 win over D’Arbonne Woods. The Mustangs will have to stop Lions running powerhouse LaDavious Scott. Plain Dealing also stop quarterback Keionje Perry along with Lion athlete Darrien Perry.
