The women’s college soccer season began this afternoon with ULM and NSU kicking off.  Louisiana Tech was to start against Nicholls State but the match was postponed until Friday.   LSUS men also started their season at home with a goal festival at home that resulted in a 4-4 tie.  

Louisiana-Monroe 9, Arkansas-Pine Bluff 0

The Lady Warhawks (1-0-0) started the college season with not allowing the Lady Lions a single shot in the opening match.  ULM unleashed 52 shots against UAPB.   Sara Navarro and Mara Grutkamp each popped two goals.  Kai Douglas, Skylar Blaise, Giulia Franco, Ally Richardson and Jaden Masters each scored.  Blaise and Franco each had two assists.  Vanessa Praher, Bernadett Stefan, and Sophia Youngman all contributed an assist.  

Sara Navarro started the goal barrage with back to back goals in the 11th (Praher assist) and 17th (Blaise assist) minutes to take the early 2-0 lead.   Lead shot taker Grutkamp scored (Franco assist) on one of her seven shots in the 40th minute.  ULM headed into halftime with the 3-0 lead. 

Didn’t take the Lady Warhawks long to net a goal when Kai Douglas scored (Blaise assist) in the 50th minute.  After two assists, Blaise had an opportunity to add a goal (Stefan, Franco assist) in the 55th minute to push the lead to 5-0.   Franco, Richardson, Masters, and Grutkamp all added four more goals for the Lady Warhawks 9-0 win.

SMU 3, Northwestern State 0

The Lady Demons (0-1-0)  started with a tough road match in Dallas against SMU Lady Mustangs.  NSU was outshot 31-5.  Libe Banuelos had 11 saves for the Lady Demons.   

SMU’s Sammy Nieves and Nyah Rose netted goals in the first half to give the Lady Mustangs the 2-0 halftime lead.  

The Lady Mustangs grabbed one more goal with a goal in the 74th minute goal from Kelly Gordon.  

LSU-Shreveport 4, William Carey 4 (Men)

The Pilots (0-0-1) did some loop-to-loops on the opening regular season match against William Mary with a 4-4 tie.  Guillermo Ferrerio netted two goals for LSUS.  Caleb Marchany and Jack Thomas each added a goal in the tie.  Kyle Mcleish grabbed four saves in the tie.   

Ferrerio gave the Pilots the early lead scoring in the 11th minute (Jack Thomas assist).  The lead didnt last long as William Carey’s Kolby Godbolt scored in the 18th minute.  Ferrerio fired the Pilots back into the lead with 2-1 lead in the 21st minute (Joel Trub assist).  The pesky Crusaders climbed back into the match on an Oscar Valejo goal in 27th minute to tie 2-2.  William Carey took their first lead in the 43rd minute with a goal from Giovanni Kachan and carried a 3-2 lead into halftime.  

Barely starting into the second half LSUS tied the match at 3-3 with Caleb Merchany netting a goal in the 47th minute (Liam Vivian assist).  The Crusader’s Teddy Miranda scored in the 61st minute.   LSUS caused the fourth tie and the game with a Jack Thomas goal in the 72nd minute.   This one stuck as the two stay knotted until the end of regulation.
