Week two of the basketball season still had Class B & C playing basketball, but Class A will kick off this week.
The Saline Bobcats had a good run making it to the finals in the Calvin tournament but eventually falling to the host team for the boys. The Bobcats did pick up a win over Atlanta in the semi-finals. Dodson boys and girls also participated in the Calvin Tournament.
The Gibsland-Coleman Bulldogs hosted their tournament this past weekend. The Lady Bulldogs won their only game of the week was Simsboro in the tournament and was led by Samora Sampson with 26 points. Homecoming Queen Ke’Honesty Williams tackled 15 points for GCHS. Seventh-grade sensation also had double digits. The boys played some powerhouse teams in the tournament facing last year’s Class B state champion Simsboro and Division V state champion Jehovah-Jireh. Terrance James had some strong nights with 23 and 20 points, respectively. Homecoming King Dontarious Coleman scored 20 against Jehovah Jireh.
Castor had a long, busy week facing Florein on Tuesday night at home and then traveling to Ebarb to participate in their tournament. Jamarion Clark and Gage Jordan had double-digit games last week.
Doyline boys kept their record undefeated for the season at 4-0 with wins over Weston and Stanley early in the week. Doyline girls dropped both games.
Summerfield took a long road trip down to Rapides Parish to play in the Plainview tournament. The Lady Rebels got their first loss of the season from powerhouse Fairview but bounced back against Family Christian. The Rebels fell to Evans and Pitkin in their games.
Week 3 will see Class A kickoff and more tournament action coming up. Doyline, Magnolia, and Arcadia will head to Sibley to play in the Lakeside Tournament. Haynesville girls will come to Bossier City to play in the Battle of the Hardwood Classic Tournament. Ringgold and Saline will compete in the Saline Tournament. Dodson will stay in Winn Parish and compete in the Weston Tournament.
