The LHSAA Girls Basketball playoffs were released today. The chase will start on Thursday evening.

Haynesville, Summerfield, and Gibsland-Coleman all received first-round byes.

Summerfield and Gibsland-Coleman as expected first-round byes. An interesting look down the road is that these two could run into each other in Lake Charles at Marsh Madness.

Haynesville (16-6) also received a first-round bye, but theirs was somewhat of a surprise. Haynesville had to compete with Homer on Saturday afternoon for the district championship to earn the valuable bonus power point for being district champs. Haynesville Lady Tors got it and bumped their ranking up a No. 5 seeding. Two teams opted out of the Class A playoffs and bumped the Lady Tors to a first-round bye. Looking ahead for the Lady Tors could be a second-round matchup with fellow District 1-A rival and No. 12 Lincoln Prep Panthers (13-12) who will take on No. 21 Oak Grove (7-15) in Grambling on Thursday night.

Homer (21-9) could also be on a path to run into Haynesville or Lincoln Prep if they make it to Lake Charles. No. 8 Homer will start their journey on Thursday night at home against No. 25 Montgomery (3-20). Before they can make it to Lake Charles, they could be on the collision course of the No. 1 North Central (19-7) team in the quarterfinals.

Plain Dealing Lady Lions (14-14) snuck in a home game at the No. 16 spot as they will host No. 17 West St. John (11-17). They win and they will get a shot at No. 1 North Central Lady Hurricanes in St. Landry Parish.

Unusually looking at the Class A bracket, all the participants including No. 24 Arcadia (2-19) are all on the same side of the bracket. If the Hornets can pull the upset over No. 9 Logansport (14-9), the Lady Hornets will host the second round game which could be a rematch for the Homer Lady Pels.

In Division IV, the Calvary Lady Cavs made the 16-team roster cut at No. 15. They will be traveling a short way down I-49 to Natchitoches to take on No. 2 St. Mary’s Lady Tigers. The Lady Tigers are currently on a 10-game winning streak.

All the Class B schools will be on the road in the first round of the playoffs. Doyline Lady Panthers (16-16) pulled the toughest draw out of any team in the area. They will have to travel south of Lake Charles for their first matchup with the Bell City Bruins (10-15). They win this one on the road and then they will have to travel to Allen Parish to take on No. 1 Fairview Lady Panthers (38-3). The combined records of the two teams is in the first two rounds opponents are 48-18. Saline Lady Bobcats (9-15) will get to stay close to home as they will travel to take on Quitman (20-12) on Thursday. Castor Lady Tigers (17-15) will travel south to Glenmora (14-12). Dodson (6-28) will go west to take on the Zwolle Lady Hawks (23-9)

Good luck to all our area teams in pursuit of state.
