The Central Texas Lobos got to salvage one of their two games on a trip to Northwest Louisiana.  Their match with Red River FC was postponed due to thunderstorms hitting the Ark-La-Tex on Saturday night.  The Sunday game with Shreveport United was threatened early morning but the weather granted enough clear weather for the Lobos and United to play.

The two decided to play a physical game.  Lobos’ Joel Garbuio had pushed the Shreveport United backline most of the first half and finally found an opening in the 28th minute with the first goal of the game.  The physical play escalated as a tackle on Gary McCormick brought the intensity of both teams and a yellow card for the Lobos.  Shreveport United attacked the remainder of the first half.  Steven Bush took a shot in the box that banged the top bar.  Lobos survived the push and took a 1-0 lead into halftime.

Central Texas found an opening at the beginning of the second half as they took two first-minute shots.  In the 48th minute, United goalkeeper chased the ball out of the box only to leave a shot over his head to be saved by the center back.  The early attack finally found its way to the United third.  In the 51st minute, a cross to a header in front of the goal flew over the net.  The Lobos found the opening in the 55th minute as a cross to Ahmed Hamed popped the back of the net and United was in a 2-0 hole.  Central Texas defense kept the ball on their third.  More shots peppered around the goal for the Lobos.  Substitute Gin Pau gave United a boost in the 62nd minute.  Pau broke through the Lobos backline a few times to threaten to score.  A breakaway by Pau left a challenge only to the Lobos goalkeeper.  A tackle by the goalkeeper caused screams to do a red card by the United fans.  The referee awarded a penalty kick taken by Steven Bush.  Bushy connected in the top left corner to close the gap to 2-1.  Central Texas defense held United from having very few chances.  Central Texas padded their lead with a kick over the goalkeeper’s head by Diego Portales in the 76th minute.    Andre Wabulakombe hit the lower right corner with an assist from Portales for the final goal.  A celebratory backflip in the top of the box was a little too much for the United goalkeeper.  The physical 4-1 by the Lobos saw them collect five yellow cards to United’s one.

The win sends the Lobos into second place with 9 points. Shreveport United sits fourth in the Western Conference.  Shreveport United will go on the road to Alexandria to hopefully stop their winless three-game streak.  Red River FC will finally get their first opportunity to play at home in Minden on Saturday night against LA Krewe
