The Lady Cavaliers (23-4) are making a common occurrence of a trip to Lafayette CajunDome to the LHSAA State Volleyball Tournament.
Calvary kept a perfect set record at home as they swept No. 29 Delcambre 3-0 (25-8, 25-6, 25-4) in the first round and No. 13 St. Charles 3-0 (25-11, 25-16, 28-26) in the second round.
“Very thankful and blessed to have a team of young ladies that consistently work hard during the season and off-season to keep improving. All of them are working so hard,” said Coach John Casey on the third trip to Lafayette.
The last two trips for the Lady Cavaliers have been one-and-done. This team is different and more experienced.
Casey recognizes that the players with the experience show through. This third trip is a different squad than went before. “The newness is gone but the excitement is still there,” said Casey. “Getting to play the top teams in the state is a lot of fun. We know that we have to keep battling and improving if we want to one day bring home the Championship.”
The Lady Cavaliers will face No. 5 Notre Dame (26-16), the team that ended their run last year in the quarterfinals. The match went a full five sets with the Lady Pioneers winning.
“Notre Dame is a great program with a long history of winning”. Casey said. “They are a super talented and well-coached team.”
Calvary is currently the only team from North Louisiana to qualify for the state tournament. Ruston and Natchitoches-Central will attempt to join the Lady Cavaliers with matches tomorrow.
Many was the only team to advance to the second round but was eliminated on Friday by Pope John Paul II in Slidell. Loyola, North Caddo, Red River, and Mansfield all fell in the first round.
The state tournament begins on November 9 in Lafayette at the CajunDome.
