The Calvary Lady Cavaliers (23-5) reached the state tournament in Lafayette at the Cajun Dome for the third consecutive year. Before that, no team from North of Alexandria had ever reached the tournament. The Lady Cavaliers received some company up north as Ruston qualified fie their first trip to the tournament that is started.
Unfortunately for the Lady Cavs, this was their third consecutive exit in the quarterfinals. No. 4 Calvary fell the No. 4 Notre Dame 3-2 (19-25, 25-17, 25-21, 17-25, 15-10). The Lady Cavaliers gave a fight to the Lady Pioneers just as they did last season going a full five sets.
So how has the Lady Cavalier broken out as a dominant team in North Louisiana? They have not been scared to head south and face some big-name teams, take some hard knocks, and grow mature. They’ve headed South Louisiana where volleyball travel ball is as much a life as travel baseball. This has been a young team and the maturity as a team is showing through. This year this is a team that plays in tournaments and is now bringing home trophies against well established team. This is a team that has not been scared to take on the 4A and 5A schools and pick up some key wins.
Calvary has a good chance of returning for a fourth consecutive year with a lot of this team will still be intact. Don’t worry about the Lady Cavs. They will very likely take the first win back from Lafayette and maybe even sneak in a state championship appearance or even better bring back the top prize.
