The Calvary Cavaliers and Homer Pelicans both took 2-0 district records into Tuesday night at Calvary.  The Cavaliers put in a 79-55 win to move into sole first place for the District 1-A boys race.   Calvary had five players go into double digits.  Daniel Ortiz led the Cavs with 30 points and 5 rebounds.  Labree Williams scored 11 points with 8 rebounds.  Will Bagley popped 11 points with 6 assists.  Ben Ponder netted 11 points with 5 assists.  Malaki Thomas added 11 points with 5 rebounds.  For the Pelicans, Takevieuntae Kidd bucketed 23 while D’Anthony Kimble contributed 17.  

Haynesville Lady Tors moved into first place with a 51-33 win over Ringgold.  Za’Niyah Kingsby led Haynesville with 19 points.  Grambling signee Marissa Tell added 17.  Ringgold’s top scorer was LaTaja Jones with 9. 

Ringgold boys remained perfect in the district at 2-0 and moved into second place with a 72-26 win over Haynesville.  Keesean Johnson put in another stellar performance for the Redskins with 25 points.  Keenan Johnson popped three from beyond the arc to score 15 points.   Demarreon Payton was the top scorer for the Golden Tors with 9 points. 

Homer Lady Pels are moving up to second in District 1-A with a 45-20 win over the Lady Cavaliers.   Jamaya Williams scored 13.  Justice Young and Sharon Henderson each scored 10.    The lead scorer for Calvary was Skylar Odom with 8.  

Castor had a pair of barn burners at home.  The Lady Tigers pulled out the 60-57 win with a three from Jalexia Caldwell at the buzzer.  Caldwell finished with 12.   Kalena Smith led the Lady Tigers with 18.  The Castor boys continue to be on the rise as they beat the Weston Wolves 51-45.   Cade Young score 8 of his 19 points in the fourth quarter to push the Tigers over.  Jamarrion Clark popped three beyond the arc in the second quarter on his way to 18 points.  

The Plain Dealing boys and Lincoln Prep Panther boys were unable to play their district matchup due to quarantine, but the ladies did get to play.  Lincoln Prep took their first district win with a 43-32 victory.   Tiyan Heard bucketed 22 for the Lady Panthers.  Auniyah Rhone added 11.  Za’Kiyah Williams made a race of 10 points in the final quarter on her way to 15. 

Doyline Coach Michael Normand passed the 600 win mile marker with an 87-84 squeaker over the Gibsland-Coleman Bulldogs.  The Bulldogs led 65-61 heading into the fourth quarter.  Doyline’s win pushes their streak to 35 games. Jamaria “Juicy” Clark popped three 3-pointer and shot 18 for 22 from the charity stripe to total 35 massive points for the Panthers.  Jamari Markray hit three 3’s in the third quarter to finish with 28 points.  Armandre Dottie scored 13.   GCHS was led by Terrance James with 25.  Joshua Adams got hot in the third quarter with four 3-pointers to finish with 16 points.  Dontarious Coleman scored 14.  Michael Woodford popped four behind the arc for 12 points. 

The Gibsland-Coleman Lady Bulldogs continued the area’s best 11-2 record with a 50-23 win over Doyline Lady Panthers.  The swarming defense only allowed five field goals for the Lady Panthers.  Ke’Honesty Williams scored a big 25 for the Lady Bulldogs.  Jamaya Jackson added 12.  The Lady Panthers were led by Unnika Miller with 12.  

The late-week will see District 1-B action kick-off.  Two powerhouse games for district standings in District 1-A as Calvary boys (3-0) will travel to Ringgold (2-0).  Homer and Haynesville girls will meet up at Homer.
