The Calvary Cavaliers boys swim team captured a Division IV state runner-up in the Ochsner LHSAA State Championship Meet at SPAR Aquatic Center in Sulphur on Thursday Afternoon. Calvary boys scored 245 points while state champion Pope John Paul II High School scored 375. Calvary boys won 5 races in individual competitions and relays. Zachary Ponder, Sam Ponder, Eli Haase, and Joshua Roper were state champs in the 200 Yard Free Relay in 1:33.16 and state runner-up in the 200 Yard Medley Relay. Junior Zachary Ponder became state champion in the 200 Yard IM and 100 Yard Backstroke. Joshua Roper took the state title in the 50 and 100 Yard Freestyle races. Sam Ponder took home silver in the 200-yard IM and 100-yard Backstroke.
Calvary Girls finished 9th in the state competition with 108 points. Senior Claire Roper became state champion in the 200-yard IM (2:17.11) and 100-yard backstroke (58.84).
Cedar Creek’s eighth-grade sensation Camdyn Napper won state championships in the 100-yard fly (56.32) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.27)
Cedar Creek’s McKenzie Jones medaled in two events. Jones won the state title in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:03.40. She finished third in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:46.34.
Choudrant’s Jack Groce is taking. a couple of State runner-up medals back to Lincoln Parish. Groce finished second in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:55.10 and the 500-yard freestyle in 5:16.08.
Loyola competed in the Division III state championships. Gus Nicolosi is bringing back two state individual state championships to the Flyers. Nicolosi won the 50-yard freestyle in 21.64 and the 100-yard freestyle in 47.04.
