The Cavalry Cavaliers opened its season with a big 8-0 win over the North Caddo Rebels at Jerry Barker Stadium on Monday night. The Lady Cavaliers also obliged the home crowd with an 8-0 win over the Lady Rebels on the doubleheader night.

Calvary’s Skylar Odom made the statement that the Lady Cavaliers were going to hit fast in the opening minutes of the match with her first goal.

The Lady Cavalier controlled possession throughout the match and the backline would not allow the ball into the other third of the pitch until the 30thminute. Although Calvary was in control they struggled to find the back of the net. The line judge seemed to have an automatic offside each time they went on the attack. In the 27th minute, Hallie Brown missed the attempt on a penalty kick. A strong attack saw the shot sail over the top crossbar.

Odom finally found the target for the second time with a goal in the 31st minute. Odom completed her hat trick just two minutes later to widen the lead to 3-0 for the Lady Cavs.

Eighth-grader Pamela Lee found her rhythm before the half to give Calvary the 4-0 lead going into halftime.

Odom came out of the locker room ready for the attack. A shot fired from the top of the box was blocked by a crossing defender. She found her fourth goal with in the 45th minute.

Kailey Brookshire found the open lane and drove in with her shot in the 50th minute to increase the lead at 6-0.

Lee gained her second goal just a minute later.

North Caddo got the opportunity to get a penalty kick but luck was not on their side and the shot ricocheted off the crossbar and back into play. Calvary quickly cleared the shot.

A drive by Lee gave her the hat trick and ended the game at 8-0.

The Lady Cavs improved to 3-2 for the season as they have a lot of new faces according to Lady Cavs Adam Hester.“It’s kind of the story every year. It’s new faces in key spots.” Hester said. “We have a lot of one year players. They want to play their senior year. Even though we have good players who have been with us for a couple of years, we’re still having to replace those one and done. It’s going well, we are in a much better point since I have been the head coach and this is my fifth year. We’ve got to finish better. We can’t just pass it to the goalie. We can’t make every goalie look like Hope Solo. Once we get that figured out, we’ve got a good chance to be pretty good.”

Assists for the nights were credited to Hallie Brown, Raelee Johnson, Molly McDowell, and Carson Davin

CALVARY CAVALIERS 8, NORTH CADDO REBELS 0

The Murray Brothers loaded up and let loose on the opening night for the Cavaliers. Abram Murray started the show as he struck in the 3rd minute with his first goal of the night. Calvary’s attack refused to allow the Rebels to get past midfield.

Braden Reeder netted the second goal in the 9th minutes to gain the 2-0 before the first 10 minutes of the match.

An attempted corner and a second shot by Reeder denied the Cavaliers to add a goal to their score.

Thomas Murray was not going to allow his brother to have all the fun as he scored his first goal in the 18th minute. Thomas Murray got a second chance but soared the shot over the goal in the 22nd minute.

A handball by the Rebels in the 24th minute allowed Brennan Barber to score on a penalty kick and increase the lead to 4-0.

Calvary continued to pepper the North Caddo goalie as they outshot the Rebels 16-1 for the night.

Thomas Murray did finally get his second goal on a kick from a cross directly in front of the goal in the 26th minute.

Abram Murray outmaneuvered his defender and the goalie to wrap his second goal of the night in a minute later after his brother’s goal.

Abram Murray secured his hat trick in extra time of the half to lead 7-0.

A penalty kick by Clay Mulford in the waning seconds of extra time of the first half wrapped up the match 8-0.

Though the boys looked to dominate, they realized they still have things to work on. They are still trying to gather together as a team as some of the football squad is now joining the soccer team. “That was our first game. We haven’t had everybody to practice yet,” Hester said. “We weren’t expecting to have our football guys for a couple of more weeks. We wish they still were playing football. It’s going to take a minute. Tonight it looked great. There were some things that we know. Our leadership even said we know there were a lot of things that we could do better. They know the work that is ahead. The Sterlingtons, the Ouachita (Christian), the Bentons, the Caddo Magnets are coming. They know that tonight was great but they know that’s not nearly where it has to be.”

The Murray brothers allow the Cavaliers to become a more complete team. “They solve so many problems because we lost four seniors that played a ton of minutes,” Hester said.”Now all of a sudden we have those guys and we can take players from other positions and move them into spots and make it a more complete team. This really could be the most complete team that we’ve had in eight years.”

Assists were credits to Thomas Murray, Braden Reeder, and Jordan Wallace

The two squads will head over the river this weekend to compete in the Bossier Tournament.
