This week was supposed to be the start of a district slate of games in District 1-A, but a winter storm and snow day put the chill on a lot of games.  Monday was a snow day for all teams halted some games from being played.  Some Bienville Parish school got an extra day due to power outages in the area.

Homer Pelicans took home their first district win of the season with a 70-20 win over the Magnolia Charter Mariners.  The Pels jumped out fast against the Shreveport-based team with a 25-2 lead after the first quarter.   TyMarkus Tate jumped out to an early 8 points in the first quarter.  The Mariners picked up a little steam in the second but Homer still kept the firm hand carrying a 37-10 lead into the half.  Even with a fast clock in the third quarter, Takevieuntae Kidd and D’Anthony Kidd piled in 10 and 8 points, respectively.  In a true eight-minute quarter, Homer scored 26 points.  The bench for both teams got some valuable minutes in the final quarter.   Kimble finished with 15 points and 8 assists.  Kidd scored 14 and 9 steals.  Tate ended with 12 and 8 rebounds.  J. Hampton finished with 9 points and 10 rebounds.  Justin Moore and Meciah Butler were lead scorer with 6 for the Mariners.

Although it wasn’t a district game, the Homer Lady Pelicans had their fill with parish rival Summerfield Lady Rebels.  The  two stayed close in the first quarter as Homer took the slight 15-10 lead.  Justice Young proved once more that she was the queen of the boards with 5 rebounds just in the final four minutes of the first quarter.  Summerfield’s Malaysia Tate got hot in the second and rattled off 7 consecutive points to take the 21-20 lead in the second.  One final basket by Young gave the Lady Pels the 22-21 halftime lead.  Tate scored all the third-quarter points for Summerfield.  Midway through the quarter Pelicans saw Young get into foul trouble with 3 fouls.  Homer held on to the two-point lead heading into the final frame.  Young returned to the rebounding as Summerfield struggled to find their shot to hold on for the 36-31 win.   Homer was led by Justice Young with a double-double of 21 points and 13 rebounds.  Malaysia Tate piled in 18 points and 11 rebounds.  Alaysia  Combs bucketed 10 points and 8 rebounds.

In other District 1-A action, Haynesville Lady Tors opened district with a 48-11 win over Calvary.  Marissa Tell scored 21 for the win.

The Calvary Cavaliers allowed the split to happen at Haynesville with a 67-30 win.  Ben Ponder scored 17.  Martin McDowell netted 12.  Daniel Ortiz added 11.  Will Bagley rounded out the Cavs with 10.

Dodson Panthers got back to action after the snow day and pulled out a 69-58 win over Downsville Demons.   Caleb Barton was the sharpshooter beyond the arc with five 3-pointers en route to 17 points.  Quinton Edwards pocketed 16.  Xaidien Hall scored 15.   Beau Carter made the charity stripe count 7 out of 9 times for his 14 points.

In Wednesday night action, the Ringgold Redskins hosted the Summerfield Rebels on a boys-only night.   Keesean Johnson continues to keep the Redskins rolling with 19 points.  Trevor Williams contributed 14.  Jordan Cook scored 12.  Monroe McCarty adds 11 points.   Eddie Kennedy was the top scorer for Summerfield with 18.  T.  Kennedy backed him up with 10.

Lots of makeup games to come after Winter Storm Lana rolled through.  A district should make play interesting.
