Calvary, Homer, and Plain Dealing all got to participate in a rare for this year tournament this weekend at they competed in the round-robin 81st Bossier Invitational at Bossier High School and Rusheon Middle School.  

The Homer Pelicans dropped their first game against Loyola but got a redemption  57-45 win on Saturday morning against North Caddo Titans.  D’anthony Kimble led the Pels with 21 points.  TyMarkus Tate racked up 14 points.  Takeviuante Kidd added 12.  The Titans were led by Omarian Miller for 22

Plain Dealing had three close matchups in the tournament.  The Lions kept a tight game with the host Bossier Bearkats on Thursday falling short 64-57.  Darren Perry swished the net for 32.   Green Oaks Giants needed overtime to overcome the Lions 55-50 on Thursday.   The Lions fell by 1 to the Loyola Flyers on Saturday afternoon.  

The tournament wanted to give the Calvary Cavaliers a challenge as they faced some top-notch talent and finished 2-1.  The Cavs took their first game with a win over the Loyola Flyers in the nightcap game on Wednesday night.  David Ortiz laid a massive 36 points on the Flyers along for the win.  Ben Ponder put in 11.  Day 2 wasn’t so kind for the Cavs as the defending Class 3A state champion Bossier Bearkats ended the 5-game winning streak for Calvary with the 62-55 loss.  Ortiz netted 25 on Thursday.  Ponder contributed 13.   The Cavaliers took on the Class 3A No. 1 ranked Wossman Wildcats from Monroe.  Daniel Ortiz drove the lane to find an open Labree Williams on the baseline three with 3.5 seconds left to knock off the No.1 ranked Wossman 55-54.  Ortiz led the Cavs with 19 points and 5 rebounds.  Williams bucketed 15 and hit the boards for 6.  

Castor Tiger made it two in a row with a 65-47 win over Downsville.  Jamarrian Clark having a strong 10 point second quarter with a total of three beyond the arc for a total of 23.  Cade Young added a strong night for the Tigers with 21 points.  Saturday afternoon dropped a 45-42 heartbreaker against the D’Arbonne Woods Timberwolves.  Austin Cooper shot 6 for 7 from the charity stripe on his way to 17 points.  Jamarrian Clark and Cade Young each had 10. 

The Castor Lady Tigers continue to be a team on the rise as they captured their win streak to four games with a 48-16 win over Downsville.  The Lady Tigers didn’t get to finish the fourth quarter as Sunnee Miller fouled out for the Demons and left them with four players.   Kaylyn Long bucketed 20 points in the three-quarter affair.  Kalena Smith added 11 for the win.  On a Saturday matinee game, Castor Lady Tigers toppled D’Arbonne Woods with a 50-49 win.  Emma Guice topped Castor scorers with 13.  Long added 12.  Smith contributed 10. 

Fellow Bienville parish school, Ringgold traveled across the state to West Carroll Parish to take on Epps.   The Lady Redskins got a nail biter 39-35 win.  Heather Cox led Ringgold with 13 points.  Chelsea Hullaby popped 9 points.  Lyanla Adams scored 8.  Marvales Broom pulled down 6 boards.  Alaina Manshak and Taylor Weathers each had 5 rebounds.  The boys pulled off another 30-plus point win with a 76-43 win over the Panthers.   Keesean Johnson led the ‘Skins with 19 points.   Trevor Williams added 14.  Jordan Cook popped the nets for 12.  Monroe McCarty contributed 11 for the win.  

In a Claiborne Parish clash, the Haynesville Lady Tors took a 36-24 win over Summerfield Lady Rebels.  Marissa Tell piled in the points with 26.  Malaysia Tate bucketed 21 of the 24 Lady Rebs points.  

Gibsland-Coleman Lady Bulldogs continued to show their young talent is going to be a threat down the road in the playoffs as they beat the Choudrant Lady Aggies 63-49.   Eighth-grader Samora Sampson led the Lady Bulldogs with 18.  Ke’Honestly Williams netted 17 points.  Senior Jamaya Jackson added 13.  The Lady Bulldogs closed out the week with a 49-19 home win over Arcadia.  Ke’Honestly Williams was the game’s top scorer with 14.   Destiny Hardy netted 11. 

Gibsland-Coleman boys had a couple slip away from them this weekend.  The Bulldogs fell to Choudrant Aggies 72-66.  Terrance James scored 16 of his 22 in the second half.  Dontarious Coleman swished 13. Jakobe Reese popped 11.   The Bulldogs stayed close to Arcadia throughout the game but fell short 57-56.  Terrance James was the top scorer for the Bulldogs with 18 points.  Donations Coleman got hot beyond the arc with four 3-pointers on his way to 14.  Arcadia’s lead scorer was Ja’Qualon Crane with 17.

Doyline boys have not played since November 30.   Being down two starters the Panthers got a home win over Epps 71-59.   Jamaria “Juicy” Clark busted 35 behind six 3-pointers.  Armondre Dotie had a strong 16 point third quarter on his way to 28 points.  “Geez was that the last time we played, ” Doyline Coach Mike Normand said.  “It just felt good to be back on the court.  We were missing some important parts to our team but thought it was worth playing just to get the competitive juices flowing again.  Juicy and Dotie were huge for us with 35 and 26 but I thought several of our younger guys got to see a little more action than normal so hopefully down the road that will pay off. “ The defending Class B state champs have not lost a game in over a year.  The winning streak extends to 34 from last year. 

The Doyline Lady Panthers although have not had that long of a break demolished Epps 61-26.  Layla Baker stormed the goal for 26 points.  Nae Feaster bucketed 16.   Tadea Rabb scored 10.
