The Calvary Cavaliers boys officially finally got to get their season rolling.

The boys did play early in December with a piecemeal team that faired well in the Bossier Tournament that gave them a 3-0-2 start.  The Cavs football championship has held up some players from joining he squad.   The boys finally had their team together on Tuesday night and came home with a 9-3 road rout at Sterlington. Abram Murray pulled off the hat trick with 3 goals and add 3 assist to the night also. Braden Reeder crossed the goal line twice.  Jordan Wallace got back on the pitch and popped a couple of goals.  Jacob King and Joseph Osborne each contributed a goal.  Thomas Murray assisted on two goals.  The boys kept their unbeaten streak alive Thursday with a 5-2 win over Ouachita on their first home match.  Jordan Wallace netted two goals and picked up two assists.  Joseph Osbourne also scored two goals. Thomas Murray added another goal.  Braeden Reeder collected two assists.  The Cavaliers are currently 5-0-2 for the season and are currently at No. 12 in the power ranking. Keep this pace up and the Cavs will get to host a first round playoff match.

“The football season being pushed back affected a lot of boys programs, but then with us making a run to the title game, I’d put us on the list of being one of the most affected, ” said Coach Adam Hester. “We got some of the younger football guys early, but you’re talking 7 or 8 other guys who join up after the state championship. Those are guys who are starters or first subs. A couple of them are brand new and we didn’t even have positions for them yet. To get two wins with them this week with hardly any practice time is huge. To score five goals vs Ouachita, all in the second half, I think that let them know we’ve got something here. Also I can’t say enough for the crew that held it together until they arrived. I think we had 15 players in the Bossier Tournament, and three were seniors. We had two middle school kids start every game and nearly play every minute. To get to the final and lose on penalties was a real boost.”

The Lady Cavaliers have been rolling all season and have moved to 6-5-2 with a 1-0 win over Ouachita at home on Thursday night.  Pamela Lee’s 25 yard free kick was the difference for the Calvary win.  Audrey Baldwin kept a clean sheet for her second consecutive game.  The Lady Cavs are moving up the power rankings as they pushed to No. 16 in Division IV.

“This group is the most talented roster we’ve had since I’ve been head coach, ” said Hester. “We knew they had a chance to be pretty good. We’ve played a schedule of mostly 4A/5A schools and really held our own. We’ve been in every game except Loyola, and as you know that’s a tough matchup for just about everybody. Some things that we’ve wanted to accomplish with the girls are starting to happen. We wanted to find an alternative playing style and formation. We’ve done that and it’s resulted in playing Parkway closer than anyone expected, and beating Ouachita who was 8-2 coming in. We wanted to beat that team that we weren’t “supposed” to, I feel like I’ve said that so many times the last two season, and we played Benton and Haughton both to 2-1 losses in tournament play. The Ouachita win was finally seeing that statement come true. The other is the district title. We know what that comes down to, and it’s beating that team that we haven’t been able to overcome. This year has a chance to be so memorable, and we’re in the conversation for a home game if we handle our business down the road. We’re doing all this by the way with girls who are also playing basketball games, participating in powerlifting meets, and getting ready for softball and tennis season. These girls just show up, ask ‘What sport is it today?’, and they go to work. I love that about them so much.”

The boys will take a road trip down to Stonewall to face North Desoto on Monday night.  The ladies will head east on I-20 to take on West Ouachita on Tuesday night.   The two teams will meet back at home on Thursday for a double header at Jerry Barker Stadium for matches against Minden.
