The Homer Lady Pelicans came up short against the 5A Airline Vikings on Tuesday evening. The Lady Pels stayed close through the third quarter but a fourth-quarter drought pushed the Vikings ahead for the win. Airline had a slim 29-27 lead heading into the final frame. Homer managed a single field goal in the fourth allowed the Lady Vikings to outscore 14-3.
Justice Young was a rebounding machine pulling down 16 rebounds including six n the first quarter along with 9 points for the Lady Pels. Toria Brocks led the Lady Vikings with 18 points.
Calvary Cavaliers split two games at the Walker Christmas Challenge in Baton Rouge area. The Cavs fell short against the three-time Division V champion Jehovah-Jireh Warriors 79-68. Labree Williams led the Cavs with 18 points and 9 rebounds. David Ortiz took 15 points and 5 assists. Will Bagley scored 14 points and 8 assists. Martin McDowell netted 14 points. McDowell nailed two key free throws with 7.9 seconds remaining to seal the 49-48 win against the BTW-New Orleans Lions. Williams finished with a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Ortiz struck again with 16 points and 7 rebounds
Saline Bobcats finally got back to action on December 3. The Bobcats pulled out a close 59-52 win over parish rival Ringgold Redskins on Monday night. Blake Clifton led the Bobcats with 15 points and a 6 of 7 charity line performance. Kenton Lee Crawford got hot behind the arc with three 3-pointers and 13 points. Ethan Robert’s contributed 10 points. Keesean Johnson led the Redskins with 22 points.
Action on the court will take a break for the rest of the holidays and pick up again next week.
