The Calvary Cavaliers finished the week with a three-game run before heading Walker in Baton Rouge to compete in their tournament before Christmas. Calvary started Thursday with a big win at Minden. Labree Williams scored 25 adding 5 rebounds and 6 blocks. David Ortiz bucketed 23. Ben Ponder grabbed 13 points. Friday night against Mansfield at home, the Cavalier got on a 15-2 run in the first quarter that the Wolverines never recovered from. Calvary bombed 10 3-pointers for the big win. David Ortiz was the top scorer for Calvary with 25 points. All Will Bagley’s 12 points rained from beyond the arc. Saturday night was a mauling of the Knights. One of the highlights of the night was junior Tyler Marshall getting his first start. An over-exuberant Marshall got away with a breakaway to score his contribution to the scoreboard. Will Bagley had a career-high night with a massive 34 points. David Ortiz bucketed 22. Martin McDowell netted 14. Labree Williams grabbed a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Been Ponder added 9 points and 8 rebounds.
Calvary Coach Vic Morris says his team is still learning. ”We’re melding. We’re learningfrom the win and definitely learning from the losses. My guys are working hard and we’re starting to gel together which is great. Playing four games in a week, sometimes it’s just to play than get the practice and get the game experience. We’ve got our veteran guys stepping up and younger guys too. We’ve still got some football player coming also.”
Homer Lady Pelicans took an overtime home win over Richwood on Thursday night. Ja’Mya Williams led the Lady Pels with 19 points. Justice Young had a massive double-double with 16 points and 20 rebounds.
