For Week 4, History was made for Centenary this week.  Grambling opened SWAC play with a win over I-20 rival Jackson State.   LCU grabbed their first win of the season in a big way over Langston College.

Centenary (1-2, 1-1) won their first game in this iteration of the Gents’ football history.  This was the first win since the 1940’s according to the Centenary Gents athletic website.  Centenary grabbed the win over the Austin College ‘Roos 36-17 on the road.   Defense was key in the matchup as three scoops and scores gave the Gents the win.  Jacob Black, Gavin Jack, and Gideon Bowman each had a scoop and score.  Zin’Tavious Smith added two rushing touchdowns for the Gents.

Grambling (3-1, 1-0) kicked off SWAC play with a home win over Jackson State.    Ke’Travion Hargrove scored two touchdowns for the Grambling Tigers on short-yard runs.   Myles Crawley also connected on a 22-yard touchdown pass to JR Waters.  The defense came up big for the G-Men.  Caleb Lee-Collins snatched a pick-6 back for 22 yards.  Patrick Marshall added another credited touchdown for the defense on a scoop and scored for 4 yards. Brenden Barley grabbed another interception for Grambling.  Reed Harradine punched in two field goals from 29 and 32 yards.

Louisiana Christian U. Wildcats (1-2,1-0) dropped a “one” in the win column by dismantling Langston at home.  Quarterback River Thompson had a stellar night in Pineville tossing for 218 yards and four touchdowns.   Three of Thompson’s touchdown launches were from 30-plus yards.  Glenbrook’s Sammy Feaster caught a 53-yard touchdown toss.  Ethan Christman was the recipient of a 30-yard touchdown pass.  Trae Grogan added a 50-yard touchdown reception.  EJ Scott scored on a 5-yard touchdown pass.  Charles Daylon broke loose on a 54-yard touchdown run.   Daylon rumbled into the end zone on another 2-yard run.  Datlan Cunningham also crossed the century mark with 112 yards for the night. Levi Hilborn added a 42-yard field goal for the Wildcats.

Louisiana Tech (1-2) suffered a heartbreaking 23-20 overtime loss at home against the Tulsa Hurricanes.  Tech had a late fourth-quarter run to take their only lead of the game with a little over three minutes remaining in the game.  Tulsa kicked a 45-yard field goal with 32 seconds left to send the game into overtime.   Tech started with possession in overtime.  A sack for a loss of 9-yard forced a fumble which was recovered by Tulsa.   Tulsa’s Morgan Seth kicked a 34-yard field goal to give the Hurricanes their second win over a North Louisiana team this season.  Jimmy Holiday and Blake Baker each crashed the end zone on 1-yard runs.   Evan Bullock connected with Eli Finley on a 24-yard touchdown pass.

ULM (2-1) took their undefeated record into Austin to face the No. 1 Texas Longhorns.   The Warhawk got the horns in the 51-3 loss.  Max Larson’s 35-yard field goal in the second quarter stopped the Longhorns from claiming a shutout.

NSU (0-3) are still looking for that first win of the season as Weber State pulled off the 39-0 shutout at Turpin Stadium.   Blake Gotcher gave the Demons another top performance as he had 11 tackles including 2 sacks and 3 tackles for loss.

If you want to see any of the local teams play next week, don’t go to their home fields.  Every single North Louisiana college team will be on the road across the country next Saturday.  Centenary, Louisiana Christian University, and Grambling will be traveling to the Lone Star State.   Louisiana Tech will be heading to Miami.  Northwestern State is headed to Missouri.  The ULM Warhawks will be heading to Alabama.  Louisiana Tech and ULM will kick off conference play.  Grambling will continue on their conference schedule with road games.
