Doyline boys and girls teams picked up big wins in the opening round of the Red River Chevrolet Bisteneau Classic at Doyline High School on Wednesday night. Pulling out a close victory and advancing through the championship bracket was the North Webster Knights over the Haynesville Golden Tornados. Here are the recaps for Wednesday night matchups

DOYLINE LADY PANTHERS 62, NORTH WEBSTER LADY KNIGHTS 19
Doyline jumped up to a first-quarter 19-2 lead and never looked backed. Unnika Miller scored two 3-pointers and topped the first quarter with 14 points. The Lady Panthers continued their drive into the second quarter as they ended the quarter with an 8-0 run and took a 40-9 lead into halftime. The Lady Panthers finished with a strong second half as they took the first-round win with the 62-19 win.

Unnika Miller was the top scorer for Doyline with 23 points. Tadea Rabb and Emori Leonard each contributed 12.

Aniya Nelson scored 14 for North Webster

NORTH WEBSTER KNIGHTS 42, HAYNESVILLE GOLDEN TORNADOS 37
The defensive battle between the two rivals started evenly in the first quarter as each traded shots. North Webster came out of the first quarter ahead 10-8. North Webster came into the second quarter with J. Robinson scoring a quick basket. This would be the only field goal for the Knight in the second quarter. Haynesville tied the game at 12 with a shot from X. Hardwell. This would start a 14-2 run by the Tornados. The frustrations built on the Knights as a scramble for the ball on the floor let emotions get high as a technical was called. Haynesville bucketed the free throws by M. French and E. Alford scored the closing bucket for Haynesville to take a 22-13 lead into halftime. Haynesville came out of the second half code as Jamarcus Stephens got hot and scored a quick six points to get the Knights on an 8-0 run and get them back into the game. Haynesville maintained its slim lead throughout the third until the buzzer-beater shot by M. Browder that gave the Knights the 32-31 lead heading into the final quarter. The Knight had caught Haynesville with four 3-pointers in the third quarter. Haynesville retook the lead with back to back points by French, but another three tied it up for the Knights. North Webster took the slim 39-37 leadoff some key free throws by Stephens. Haynesville lost possession on a jump ball forced by J. Myles. North Webster handed it back with a traveling call. Haynesville attempted a full-court press and forced a backcourt call with 52 seconds remaining. Haynesville brought the possession back down and a bad pass towards Alford forced him to step out of bounds at 45 seconds. Haynesville had to foul to get another chance of possession. Davis made one of the two free throws to keep the game within 3 with 18 seconds remaining. Haynesville lost the ball with 6 seconds remaining and the fifth foul by Alford sent him to the bench and K.McDaniel to the line. McDaniel sank both free throws sending the game out of reach for the Golden Tornados.

Jamarcus Stephens led the Knights with 16 points.

Haynesville leading scorer was Zacheus McDaniel with 12 points.

DOYLINE PANTHERS 75, MAGNOLIA CHARTER MARINERS 56
The Doyline Panthers started strong with an early 18-5 run as Decari Markay swished eight early points. T. Lewis became a thorn in the Panther’s paw as added 15 points in the opening quarter to give Doyline only a 22-12 lead after the first quarter. The Mariner closed into within six points with a three-pointer and making three free-throws on a foul. This was too close for comfort for the Panthers Jordan Fuller made back to back short sent the Panthers on the 6-0 run. Lewis bombed another three. The Panthers tried to run away but Lewis continued to assault behind the arc. Doyline changed strategy and double-teamed Lewis. The frantic defense forced Mariner turnovers. Doyline finished the half up 43-29. Doyline started the second half with a 9-0 run and widened their lead. Jamaria Clark finally found his shot and gave the Panthers another small 6-0 run. The Mariners frustration brought a technical foul. The Panthers rolled into the final quarter with a 64-40 lead Doyline maintained the lead and moved to the next round with the 75-56 win.

Jordan Fuller scored 21 points for the Panther’s win. Decari Markay bucketed 17 points. Javeon Nelson assisted with 11 points.

T. Lewis scored a massive 26 points for Magnolia Charter. T. Butler late second half scored 10. M. Washington also had 10 for the Mariners.

Boys tournament action will return on Thursday night as the Magnolia Charter Mariners will face the Haynesville Tornados at 5:00 pm. Lakeside and Red River will matchup at 6:30. Doyline and North Webster will round out the night at 8:00. The girls’ bracket will resume on Friday night.
