The first step for the girls’ state powerlifting championship took place at Ruston High School on February 26.   Four local teams are going to head a little more down I-20 to Monroe at ULM Fant-Ewing Coliseum.   

The defending state champion Calvary Lady Cavaliers will be sending nine to the state championships.

Emma Grace Lazarus claimed not only the gold in the 105 class but also the North Regional Championship over all classes in the 105 weight class.  Sophomore Lazarus lifted 235 squat, 105 bench, and 250 on dead lift for a total weight of 590.  

Breanne Jones finished second in the 114 class with 225 squat, 120 bench, and 230 dead lift for a total of 575.

Other Lady Cavalier qualifiers are Iley Chism (4th, 105), Mireya Roberson (4th, 220), Endly Chism (5th, 123), Avery Fore (6th, 97), Cantley Mulford (6th, 114), Molly Harris (7th, 132), and Adalyn Lacaze (7th, 181)

Haynesville sends eight to the championships in Monroe.  Courtney Ogden was the top Lady Tor finishing second in the 97 weight class.  She had a 135 squat, 75 bench, and 175 dead lift for a total of 385.  Other qualifiers for Haynesville are Zaelaysia Johnson (6th, 165), Haiven Thomas (6th, 181), Alexis Oglee (7th, 220), Dajanique Jackson (7th, SHW)

Castor Lady Tigers will be heading to Monroe with two lifters.  Ananiah Johnson finished third for Division in the SHW with a 335 squat, 140 bench, and 300 dead lift for a total of 775 lbs.  Johnson’s teammate Stormy Watson finished sixth in the same division.

Ringgold will be sending a female lifter for the first time since  2011.  Zyon Bell qualified placing ninth in the 220 weight class.  Bell lifted 205 squat, 110 bench, and 265 dead lift for a total of 580 lbs.  

These lifters will be competing at ULM Fant-Ewing Stadium on Friday, March 25 for the Ochsner’s LHSAA Powerlifting State Championship.
