CASTOR LADY TIGERS 57, ARCADIA LADY HORNETS 39

The Castor Lady Tigers advanced to Saturday night championship game with the 57-39 win over the Arcadia Lady Hornets at Saline High School on Thursday Night. The Lady Tigers had to overcome being down in the half. The Lady Tigers outscored Arcadia 19-11 in the third quarter to take the lead and eventually to the win.

The Lady Tigers leading scorer was M. Bumgardner with 16 points. K. Long popped the nets for 12 also for the Lady Tigers. M. Moss contributed 10 points.

Kayla Kurrie led Arcadia with 16 points. M. Harris bucketed 10.

GIBSLAND-COLEMAN LADY BULLDOGS 60, RINGGOLD LADY REDSKINS 9

The aggressive defensive style of the Gibsland-Coleman Lady Bulldogs was too much for the Ringgold Lady Redskins as they advanced to the semi-finals on Thursday night. Ringgold struggled to find the basket as their first field goal of the game didn’t occur until 18 seconds remaining in the third quarter.

Samora Sampson was the high scorer for the Lady Bulldogs as she netted 21 points. Ke’Honesty Williams was the defensive master with 6 steals but managed to score 15. Shamaria Durham crashed the boards for 8 rebounds and 10 points for the night.      

Gibsland-Coleman will face the Saline Lady Bobcats on Friday night at 6:15. The winner will face Castor on Saturday night at 6.

GIBSLAND-COLEMAN BULLDOGS 62, RINGGOLD REDSKINS 60

The Gibsland-Coleman Bulldogs fended off a comeback by the Ringgold Redskins to advance to the semifinals with a 62-60 win. 

The Bulldogs hot hand for the night was Marcus Durham who scored a massive 25 points in the win. K. Abney strong first quarter helped in his 21 point night.

Ja’tiree Trent led Ringgold with 29 points. Tyler Cook aided with 10.

Abney kickstarted the Bulldogs into an early first quarter 6-0 run. Abney scored 9 of the Bulldogs 15 points in the first quarter as they went into the second quarter with a 15-9 lead. 

Ringgold went cold to start the second quarter only able to bucket two free throws in the first three minutes. Gibsland took advantage of and increased their lead to 9 points. A score by Trent seemed to reverse the roles of the two teams. Trent scored six points in fast succession and Tyandre Savage snuck a basket in as Ringgold tied the game with a little over a minute remaining. The two teams remain knotted until 12 seconds remaining. Trent gave the Redskins their first lead since the first basket of the game. Trent fired off the momentum of the Redskins with a buzz beating three to give Ringgold the 27-22 lead going into halftime.

Ringgold brought the red hot hand back into the third quarter as Kesean Johnson scored a quick six points and Trent pocketed another 2 points and the Redskins were looking to cruise on with the win as they took a 35-28 lead with 4:30 remaining in the third. They stopped the fast pace of the Bulldog offense with their 1-3-1 zone. Ringgold then changed to a full-court press and Marcus Durham saw the momentum switch back to the Bulldogs. Marcus Durham started to draw the fouls on the Red Skins as Savage reached his fourth foul with a little under two minutes in the third quarter. Durham got hot and scored 10 of the Bulldogs 18 points. Gibsland went on an 11-2 run and knotted the game at 40 with 25 seconds remaining in the third. Abney scored the final bucket to regain the lead for Gibsland-Coleman at 42-40.

Savage gave Ringgold the lead with an opening three. Abney then took control of the Bulldogs by commanding the board and scoring on a layup followed by a tip-in from a miss by Durham. Abney then struck with a three excited the crowd. Well, Abney got a little too excited with his celebration as he drew a technical from the ref. Trent nailed the two free throws and Ringgold was back within 2 points. Gibsland continued to drive the goal and draw the foul. Jordan Cook drew his 4th foul with five minutes remaining. The Bulldogs took advantage of the double bonus as they shot free throws with no rebounders around the lane. Ringgold then got on a 5-0 run and closed within four. Abney then received his fifth foul and was out of the game. A little less than a minute later R. Jenkins fouled out for the Bulldogs. Ringgold slipped to within two points. Redskins looked to tie it up with a bucket but the referee whistle and a goaltending call negated the points. Gibsland called a timeout to maintain their composure. The Bulldogs went to run the clock down. Durham drove to the basket and lost the ball. Ringgold overthrew the pass to give it right back to Gibsland-Coleman. Ringgold fouls started to take their toll. Tyler Cook was the first to foul out with 42 seconds remaining. T. James made one of the double bonus free throws. Trent rebounded as Savage drove the goal to miss the shot. Gibsland went to stall again only to have Savage steal and call a quick timeout. Coming back from the timeout Trent scored a jump shot to get the Redskins within 1 point at 61-60. Savage took another steal from the Bulldogs with 17 seconds remaining. Trent missed the shot as J. Reese rebounded the shot only to be fouled by Jordan Cook. Jordan Cook had fouled out with 7 seconds remaining. Reese bucketed his first free throw but missed the second. Trent rebound and attempted a last shot but fell short as Gibsland eliminated Ringgold from the tournament with a 62-60 win. 

The Gibsland Coleman Bulldogs advance to the semifinals to take on the Saline Bobcats in the nightcap game at 7:30. The winner will face the winner of the Castor/Arcadia game which will be played at 5 pm on Friday.
